Ticket Question?

Featured Replies

Hey sox fans: Long time reader, first time poster. I have a quick question for anyone and everyone. I am a split season ticket holder, just recieved my tickets and found out that I am unable to attend the first weekend games against Seattle (have a wedding to attend in Mobile). So, in way of this post, I was wondering if I am allowed to sell these tickets to fellow sox fans FOR FACE VALUE ONLY!!!! Please let me know, as well as if anyone is interested. GO SOX

First time poster that has four posts?

Where are your seats?

Section 149 row 14 (2 seats)

If you live in Illinois you are only permitted to sell the tickets for twice fact value by law.

I know that brokers can resell for whatever they want. But, it's legal in Ill. to resell you tix for up to double the face value? That's news to me.

Aren't there ways around that though? Such as, i throw in a white sox poster, and now you i can sell the package of poster and tickets for as high as i want? People have been doing this with illini tickets all year. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

No, that's right. I've seen it done many times.

JUst sell for face value to first person who asks, when I wont be able to attend my games, I will just sell for face. No reason to go all northside on this board and rip each other off

As far as I know, scalping in Ill. is illegal period. I've seen those guys at the 35th street train get cuffed for scalping. It doesn't matter how much more you're selling it for.

Question

Is ticket scalping against the law in Illinois? I read about the law suit in Missouri against ticket scalpers, and I wonder if scalping is illegal in Illinois.

Answer

To legally re-sell tickets in Illinois above their face value, you need a license. But re-selling at face value, or less, is perfectly legal, even without a license.

For whatever reason, eBay allows you to sell them at 2X the face value before requiring a license #.. unless you sell them with something else like Krush mentioned since you can claim that you are selling the item and the tickets are included.

Ebay is where I have always sold tickets... That's where I got my info.

Yep, Illegal.

Sorry, that's what I meant, the term 'scalping' to me implies a resale at above face value, that's illegal. If someone says they're 'scalping tix', I always assume it means above face value.

I've sold tickets 10 feet from window 10 for face and below. That's not illegal. And of course if you have a license, that's not illegal either.

Yep, that's fine, but once you go above face and have no license :stick

I've scalped tickets for over face value outside Wrigley before, just gotta be real careful.

Yeah, always remember to ask the buyer "You ain't a cop, right?"

 :lolhitting

I suck at scalping and at buying from scalpers. People never give me what I ask for and I can never talk anyone down. I've seen guys leave with tix instead of selling them for face.

If they've left then they still think they can sell them for more than you were offering. They'd rather make some money than eat tickets, it wouldn't make sense to play hard ball and not sell them whatsoever.

I've waited til like the 2nd inning for some games. Believe me, the hard core scalpers will leave with tix before they sell them for face. They're thinking about it long term. If word gets out that all you have to do is wait them out, then people would do just that. Besides once they've made enough off the ones they've sold, they can eat a few and still make a big profit. :huh

Heres a good tip if you think you arent good at buying tickets. Walk by the guys that sell the tickets right by the EL, offer them 10 dollars for every ticket they offer you, they ALWAYS come down on price. We do this all the time when people want to come with us and becuase we have seasons we need to buy box seats from these guys.

huh? You mean offer them $10.00 above face value for each ticket? So 2 box tix at $80.00 face, offer $100.00?
