March 15, 200521 yr For those of you worried about Jurassic this off-season, have you seen enough to put those worries aside? Coming into today, Everett led the league with 12 RBI, has worked deep in counts, and has looked ten times better physically. Personally, I think Carl can fill those DH shoes nicely until Frank comes back. Although it's a small sample size, I'm sold. Carl's back.
March 15, 200521 yr Carl's got some nice road numbers over the years as well. 04 R 296/355/472/827 vs Thomas 04 R 274/432/460/892 03 R 288/370/491/861 vs Thomas 03 R 249/377/457/834 02 R 247/303/366/669 vs Thomas 02 R 240/351/355/706 Not as big a drop-off on the road at least.
March 15, 200521 yr QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 04:32 PM) What do we do with him once Frank is back? Super sub? Or trade him? or what? Good problem to have, no doubt about that. This is where ozzie really gets to manage, I believe you'll see Ozzie keep his hottest bats in the lineup if Carl is hitting better then Jermaine he'll be starting in rf and vice versa, imo.
March 15, 200521 yr QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) What do we do with him once Frank is back? Super sub? Or trade him? or what? Well, if Dye continues his dismal hitting vs. righties, you could certainly platoon the two -- though I don't know if either would settle for 'platooning'. It'll be a nice problem to have, though, if Everett needs to be in the lineup everyday. It might come down to Podsednik not coming close to his '03 numbers, and Everett being put in left with Rowand in center and Dye in right. Who knows...

We can't have Timo taking AB's away from Carl. Carl as the fourth outfielder can spell each of the regular OF's once a week as well as DH once in a while.

I hope it works out nicely.

March 16, 200521 yr Jurassic is a good solid ballplayer. Before he can to the Sox in '03 I always thought he was a headcase, because of the Boston situation. He proved that he wasn't and I'm glad to have him on the squad to start the season, for a change.
March 16, 200521 yr well you can't trade him when Thomas comes back, because who knows how long it will take thomas to get things together. I think you just work him in anywhere you can. Dh him, start him in the outfield and with our outfield we can switch guys up and move them around. I think it will be good for thomas not have to rush back and can come back 100 %
March 16, 200521 yr I think we'll see Carl run a lot more than he has recently too. It'll be fun to watch this year.

I think we'll be seeing a lot more of the Carl of old. He's in shape, healthy, happy, batting cleanup: all the essentials for a happy, productive Carl.
