Well some of you who were pining for the acquisition of Robert Person have gotten their wish:

He has been inked to a minor league deal...check the last paragraph

In addition, its good to see Corwin Malone's name back in print. He will be starting in Birmingham as a reliever...

Thanks for posting this.

I like it.

Totally no risk, and if this guy has anything left at all, he is a good fall back option. He's a veteran who can possibly help if the need arises.

And yes, I was one of those pining for something like this ... not necessarily this guy but he fits the profile.

Nice move. Didn't he tear something last year? If I recall the injury wasn't arm related.

I know one thing, Person always has had good stuff. I don't know if he'll ever pan out, but you never know, he could be of value later on in the year.

Yea...iirc I think hes coming off an achilles tendon injury...

But I agree, he could be of value especially with the uncertainty of Contreras and El Duque.

He always has been a little wild but he has good stuff...time will tell

Remember those who thought he was going to be our 5th starter last season?

Yup... :bang

I'm actually hoping they come back and call for him to be our fifth starter right now :D

But in all honesty, he might have been better than what we brought out there most of last seaon in the fifth spot

Second worst memory of the start of last season...

Second only to Danny Wrong being our 5th starter. :puke

Did anyone claim Danny? I know he's supposed to pitch at some point this year, but dont' recall anyone picking him up after the Sox released him.

Totally no risk move, and its a good idea on KW's part.

I'm disappointed in not keeping Burke and keeping Widger...

I don't think so. He has to rehab from the Tommy John surgery he had on June 1st.

Ya, but my understanding was that he would be pitching by midseason in the minors. Who knows though. I hope someone gives him a shot because he was a class act and when healthy had good stuff.

I am not Widger is a better defensive catcher and seems to handle the pitchers just fine. Good move

I'm also happy to see Malone's name in. For Person, I don't mind this at all, no risk in signing him. It can't get worse for him, only better.

Alright then, quickman has spoken, i'm just a youngin who doesn't know anything, right?

Another reason Widger could be a good pickup is because he has alot more pop in his bat than Burke. He could actually hit a few homers at the Cell.

I guess Hawk's "selling" of Widger worked. He's been saying how hard Widger has been hitting the ball this spring but he's been hitting them right to fielders. But I've been watching the games and Hawk is right. Widger is making alot of solid contact right to defenders.

Don't take things so personally there Beastly. :) Widger has obviously impressed the Sox enough to be given an oppurtunity, and if Davis is traded, and Widger struggles, Burke is the next in line to get called up.

Having another RH bat off the bench with some pop also prob. played a role.

Yeah, I said that in another thread. They like Widger's defense more than Burke's and they like Widger being a righty bat over Davis who is only good from the left side. Of course, the torn ligament in Davis' index finger also played a role.

If he would have been healthy, he probably would have been our fifth starter, and couldn't have done any worse than the crap we threw out there every fifth day.

After the 5th starter fiasco of the last 2 years I say all the potentially servicable arms the Sox can stockpile the better

True, well said

wasn't taking it personally...I was kidding with quickman

Its okay, i just hope Burke doesn't get claimed, he's pretty good for a backup

Burke will not get claimed. He was signed to minor league contract and has been assigned to Charlotte.
