I have not read through any of the game threads, etc.

 

And I have little idea other then MB pitched his ass off, and Shingo got the save.

 

But I will say this, and people that were there or watched, help me out here.

 

Is this not the kind of game that last year, we found ways to lose? 1-0... not the 11-0 or 12-2 crap... the one run, squeaker, mentally tough kind of games...

 

Let's hope this continues, because the mental makeup of a team can go a long ways to win games like these...

 

Exactly. We never won a game last year where just scored 1 run. If we can win games like this during the '05 season, our optimism will be justified.

Yeah, but I think a lot of those 1-run games were 13 to 12, some of which we were ahead by more but our bullpen of Mike Jackson and Kocheroo let in a lot of runs to get it to a one run game. Completely different animal from today.

Great game for Buehrle, and it won't be his last one, but... Even Sandy Koufax wouldn't throw more than a few games like that in a full season in this age, based in this stadium. We can't count on this, we need more offense.

Thank God for Buerhle. Anyone else on the Sox staff pitching this game and its an L. Buerhle really relies on the catcher to call the game, he rarely shakes them off. I think AJ calling the game will do nothing but make Buerhle even more effective. The guy gives up 2 hits and walks 1, and coerces 2 DPs. Totally dominating. The offense was offensive, but maybe Westbrook had something to do with that. Any time you score 1 run and win it goes in the column of the other 42 games Hawk and DJ always talk about when you win 60 and lose 60, its how you do in the rest that determines your success. I still can't get over how great Buerhle was today. One of the better performances you will ever see.

Westbrook was dealing. He looked every bit as good as his 3.38 ERA of last season.

Westbrook had amazing sink and location on his pitches. I was thrilled when we scored the one run. After last years opener, it was great to win a game without choking away a 9th inning lead.

Westbrook was a stud today, every bit as good as Buehrle. Iguchi and Podesdnik both looked overmatched today but I was not shocked, Westbrook was that good.

 

Buehrle and Shingo were better ... it ended up as a win, and IMO credit is due to Pierzynski, he called a magnificent game.

 

Sox did just enough executing on offense to get it done. Very frankly with the way those two starting pitchers were dealing, I'm surprised anyone scored.

We would have been the team last year,to have the error and lose the game. It was also nice to see a packed house,with only a couple of fights!!!

Interesting observations. I think AJ might be the single biggest signing this offseason. It's nice to have a decent catcher back there that can handle this pitching staff. That alone will win ballgames.

One more observation (after watching the replay on Comcast) -- the sound on Comcast is absolutely terrible. They better clean that up ASAP, it was pretty poor...

Westbrook was very good...... I was surprised to find that he actually threw more strikes than Buehrle. Their pitch count was almost the same as well. Both guys were excellent.

May 13, 2003, White Sox 1, Baltimore 0. I don't mind winning by more than one since we had all those one-run games last year. It's nice to know we're capable of winning 1-0.

The two are not even close. I'm a big Jon Garland fan, but don't let anyone tell you how great his stuff is. It just doesn't stack up.

I did see AJ looking over quite a bit but maybe it was just for possible pitchout signs when Indians were on base. I also only remember AJ and Mark having one or two conferences.

 

It seemed like they were on the same page the whole game. I don't think Cleveland hit any balls hard that had a chance of being fair.
