Wise Master Buehrle
LF 2B DH 1B RF CF C 3B SS Seems like whoever is playing in a certain position is playing where his defensive position dictates. Timo batted 5th yesterday. Ozuna leading off today. What's with Ozzie??

Wise Master Buehrle
The fact that Timo hit a home run was just lucky. Yes, it worked. But the odds of it working again (that being Timo in the 5 hole) are minimal, in my opinion.
witesoxfan
I don't care that it worked. A career .692 OPS should never hit that high in the order, unless it is leadoff or 2nd and his OBP is in the .350-.360 range.
KevHead0881
You got a string of right handers in the middle of the lineup. I'm guessing that he just wanted Timo to break up the monotony. And yes, it appeared to work. So whats the problem?

Wise Master Buehrle
Why should I be happy knowing that next time Dye gets a break that Timo is going to be hitting 5th? Aaron and AJ should be bumped up. If he wants to break up the righties, put AJ above Aaron.
Guest JimH
I don't understand why Timo Perez is such a lightning rod on this board. He's a backup player, that's it, not worth all this back and forth that's been going on here for the last 6 months.
CWSGuy406
QUOTE(SEALgep @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 11:43 PM) Some people are never happy. I'm sorry for not wanting a guy with a .692 OPS hitting 5th. And, if he wanted to break up the righties, put AJ fifth. AJ's OPS isn't great either, but he's much better than Timo. And, Ozuna leading off tonight... :banghead :banghead :banghead
Guest JimH
I think Guillen wants to get his regulars used to hitting in certain slots. It's April, this is not a big deal.
KevHead0881
I'd understand having a problem with Timo batting 5th every game (in fact, I'd have a problem with Timo simply playing every game). But it was one spot start. Timo has come up with some big hits against the Twins and appears to see the ball well in Minnesota. I'd actually call it a decent move by Ozzie. Jim, the only reason I harp on it so much is because I want the Sox to have the best chance to win each and every night out, and I don't feel that Timo hitting fifth gives the Sox the best chance to win. I understand Dye needing the day off, but that doesn't mean you put Timo 5th -- IMHO...

I think the reason Ozzie had him hitting 5th was to get all the other guys more comfortable in their slots. Easier to plug Timo into Dye's spot vs. moving everybody around. And ... it worked out well. Plus it gives Timo confidence. Good move.

GoodAsGould
I really dont see the problem.... Timo did fine when he was batting 5th and today Ozuna did fine batting leadoff both those K's he got were bs and they even showed how far the 2nd one was off the plate... also that bunt leadoff was beautiful. Chisoxfn
Problem is Aaron and Pyrz are better hitters than Timo so why have Timo in front of him. In the case of Santana I'd of had Guchi leading off with Aaron in the 2 hole. Aaron tends to hit lefties well and Guchi would of been there. Then have Zuna in the 9 spot or so. But I can see semblance for the first two weeks or so keeping the lineup straight so the regulars can adjust, after that, get used to it because I'd always want the best lineup possible out there. GoodAsGould
well Rowand didnt really look to good today did he... Ozuna had some good AB's and Iguchi was awesome in the 2 spot....as long as it works dont worry about it right?
Chisoxfn
Rowand hasn't looked good all year (he looked great in spring though). Once he gets going then I think you'll see Ozzie put him higher in the lineup against lefties.
