GAH! McCarver :bang

Hawk at 50...should be higher, but I'll take it. Atleast it's recognition

Scully is awesome, I love listening to "Dooooooodg-er Baseball" with Scully at the mic. MLB Extra Innings is awesome. :headbang

I think so. :bang

This was in today's Tribune. The Hawk is #50, John Rooney is #66.

Book ranks baseball's all-time best announcers

Curt Smith is considered one of America's foremost historians of baseball broadcasting, and his 11th book --"Voices of Summer"--is about baseball's best announcers. Smith created a ranking system--which looks at factors like longevity, continuity, language, popularity, voice and knowledge--to form his list. Chicago is well represented on the list--15 who did White Sox games and 13 who did the Cubs.

Brickhouse was a piece of trash. I hate that name and everything associated with it.

eeew Tim McCarver sucks... and Bob Uecker isnt even top ten, oh well, thats the writer's opinion.

I'm gonna merge this with the other thread, just so you know, rv23.

Dave Niehaus has the best homerun calls.

I never liked Scully, but I recognize that it's all me. I guess it's a matter of personal taste in broadcasters, but he almost puts me to sleep.

Tim McCarver always seems to say stupid s***, and then get his ass handed to him by what happens in the game. How this guy ranks so high, I haven't a clue.

As for Jack Brickhouse, I always liked him even though he bled Cubby blue. I guess it's because I grew up listening to him do both Cubs and Sox games.

Don Drysdale at 63? I'd rate him over Hawk, and I like Hawk a lot.

Personally, I'd put Jack Buck number 1.

hmm i should show this to all those damn cubs fans who think they had the better broadcasters

I would have put Joe Buck much higher. He is a lot better than Jon Miller and many ahead of him. Also, I was diappointed Thom Brennaman failed to make the list. He's very good.

GODDAMN IT, NO JOE CARTER???????

THERE IS NO JUSTICE IN THE WORLD!!!!!!

And for whatever it's worth, Scully bores me too.

Brickhouse was OK when I was a kid.

Harry was fun and a credible announcer with the Sox, but went senile and goofy with the Cubs.

I liked Drysdale too, and Hawk has really grown on me. I used to hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhate! his announcing, but now I can't imagine the Sox broadcasts without him.
