Quotable Ozzie

Guillen, noting that Jackie Robinson and Willie Harris are both from Cairo, Ga.: "Too bad the only good player from Cairo was [Robinson] and not Willie Harris. I told Willie, 'What happened to you?' Jackie didn't leave anything for Willie."

I don't think I'd feel very good about that comment if I was willie.

Pretty condescending I think. :huh

Idonno... but I think there was more to that quote than that article let on? I dont see a manager just putting down a player like that.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Willie harris is not hank aaron oh nos!1!1!1!1!

It's called a joke. Oz does that a lot.

The article calls Ozzie a "jokester" -- I guess I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until I see something more, but he definitely sounds like an ass. And why? Willie's done everything asked of him so far this season. Maybe Oz's just redirecting his anger from the Venezuelan who stole all his rightful talent -- Luis Sojo.

The part that makes me consider this a non-issue is where Ozzie says "I told Willie...." - this means Oz was re-telling a joke that he told TO Willie!

This sounds like the typical joking around and s***-talking that goes on all the time on any team at any level, from MLB to beer-league softball.

It's nothing.

I think that's right. It's a poor choice letting that be quoted, when everyone knows you actually don't have confidence in Willie, knowing that the context can't be reported. Ozzie needs a personal pr department.

Yeah, Oz needs a filter, for sure, but then a lot of the fun Ozzie quotes would never get to our ears, and I NEED the Crazy Ozzie Quotes!

And if you think about it, this COULD actually make it look like Ozzie likes Willie enough to talk s*** about him, like he's part of the team, etc etc.

...but then the next four days on the bench erases the good feeling all over again... :D

This quote was in the trib Sox beat section, with the headline "Always the jokester". Ozzie was kidding around as usual.

Although, he is kind of right.

They actually played the clip on the Sox game last night, and Ozzie and the whole press crew around him were really cracking up during the whole thing

Guillen is a pompous ass just like Hawk was. I'm sick of seeing Willie get trashed in every media circle by some in the organization. The guy happens to be hitting .400 this year and has more talent then Ozzie did after his injury.

Ozzie needs a reality check and he needs to stop trashing players in the media. Learn to STFU.

Sorry, only thing Ozzie does well or at least seems to is motivate his players and getting them to play hard. He's lucky thats one of the keys to managing becuase other than that he's a total POS.

If I'm looking into this too far, fine, but Ozzie has ripped enough of his former players and enough of the current players. I don't get why Willie always gets trashed and its like a joke in the media. I can't think of many managers that make jokes like that when quoting in the media. I've heard jokes, but nothing at this level.

Nah its been building. I absolutely loathe the way he handles this bullpen, not to mention the way he handles the lineups when he plays a reserve.

There is absolutely zero reason to have Jermaine Dye in the 5 hole right now. Aaron is hitting the ball well and Dye's swing is looking fugly at this point. Swap the two of them and put AJ in between. Its only the smart thing to do.

To add to that he had AJ bunting in one of the situations with runners on 1st and 2nd (when all that was being thrown were balls by Piniero). Its early in the game and you have a productive hitter out. I don't really think then is a good time to be trying to manufacture your runs, especially with a lousy bunter at the plate. At least not against a guy like Piniero who is coming back from an injury.

If its against someone like Johan Santana or an ace then you do it. In that situation it was a bad call, imo. ANd remember I don't question moves after the fact, I only question stuff before the fact and I was just shaking my head the 2nd I saw AJ try to lay down the bunt on the 1st pitch.

Jermaine Dye and Paul Konerko really havent hit much since the twins series so by that logic we should move Rowand all the way up to the 3 hole and Crede batting cleanup.... We have only played 10 games thus far i dont think that calls for a lineup change yet.

I have to agree with you his bullpen handling so far has been a mess but i guess we can only hope he improves his use of it as the season progresses.
