April 26, 200520 yr "Mets Cut Matthews, Recall Ring" http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/a...bbn_mets_ring_1 NEW YORK - The New York Mets designated left-handed relief pitcher Mike Matthews for assignment Monday night and recalled lefty Royce Ring from Triple-A Norfolk. Matthews was signed as a minor league free agent in January and made the team in spring training. He was 1-0 with a 10.80 ERA in six games and gave up four hits and three runs while recording just two outs in his last appearance Sunday against Washington. He appeared in 35 games for Cincinnati last season and has also pitched for St. Louis, Milwaukee and San Diego. Ring came to the Mets organization from the Chicago White Sox in the Roberto Alomar trade two years ago. He was 5-3 with Norfolk and Double-A Binghamton last season. "He's been throwing well in Triple-A," general manager Omar Minaya said. "We felt it was time to give him an opportunity."
