If.... When Frank gets into the hall of fame...

Featured Replies

Will he be inducted as a 1b where he had those MVP years or as a DH where he hit his 500th homerun?

He'll go in as a first baseman, that is where he has played the majority of his career while healthy.

Agreed. His most defining numbers were accomplished while he played 1B too.

WHEN he is voted into the HOF I will be there for the ceremony, I gaurentee that. I will find a way to fly out to Cooperstown. I've watched this guy play my entire life, he's been my favorite ball player for as long as I can remember and that moment when he is recognized for his accomplishments I will be there to share in the moment.

That's his biggest fan.

Seriously, when Frank is elected, if we are still all here, we should organize a bus trip to Cooperstown.

A short bus?

Interestingly, Frank still has over half his career games played at 1B. It won't be that way for much longer though. 6 more games at DH and the numbers will be exactly even.

:lolhitting Seems about right.

I just had to bump the most recent HOF thread on Mr. Thomas. ESPN has an article on which 40 current players have the best chance of getting into Cooperstown. Frank's #26 on the list, and this is what they say about him:

26. Frank Thomas

The Steroid Era means 500 home runs no longer ensures automatic induction -- and the Big Hurt is moving toward 500 more slowly than Bob Wickman moves through a buffet line. Ultimately, whether he scrapes past the 500 barrier should have no bearing on his Hall status; it is, after all, just a number. Thomas (along with Sheffield) is going to be a litmus test as to how much voters have learned from the Sabermetric Revolution: Do they understand that this guy was baseball's best hitter during the 1990s? Before Bonds became Bonds, there was no more feared hitter in the game (excepting maybe the late '90s blips of Mac and Sammy). He won two MVPs (and finished in the top three in three other years), led the AL four times in OPS and on-base percentage, hit above .340 three times and generally scared the hell out of opposing pitchers.

Theres an article on whitesox.com about the white sox possibly buying out his contract.

IMO its not a if, but a when. But I do think they will get a deal done at a lower price.

There's not even an article; it's just part of a Q&A with some pretty lame questions.

Here's some of the questions that were submitted and answered:

Why did Ozzie say Tadahito Iguchi is the team's MVP, when it's the whole team, not just him? He may have hurt some guys' feeling. Will they start losing because of what he said?

Hi, my name is Tim and I was wondering if you could give me any of the players' e-mails? Thanks a lot!

Hi Scott, I noticed during the Red Sox series that some of our players look like they didn't belong on the same field with the Red Sox. What I mean by this is when the White Sox went to the postseason in 1983, they looked like they didn't belong. It's that glazed look, like they were in awe! So my question is, what does Ozzie need to do to get the team ready for the hype of postseason play, and to make them feel like they belong there and can win it all? -- Pete, Mount Prospect

Absolutely. Then work out a new deal.

I like the first one the best how Ozzie hurt the players' feelings by labeling Iguchi our MVP, and thus, the players are going to lose in spite of him.
