I, like most Chicago White Sox fans, was enamored with Bobby Jenks' first relief appearance. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to see the goods from him.

 

My question to you all is: Will Jenks survive KW's trades as a Chicago White Sox, and if so, will he close for us in 2006? I just have a feeling he's going to be special.

Tough call. I don't think we've seen enough of him to make a decision. He could become another Dotel or another Farnsworth .

I'd say Jenks will most likely be here on August 1st.

 

As for next year, I say Hermanson closes for us to start the year assuming KW doesn't pick someone up at the deadline this year or a FA over the offseason.

 

Jenks more than likely won't be ready to start closing full time next season though he could be a pretty good relief pitcher. Of course Jenks could always pitch extremely well and convince people that he can close now and become our closer.

 

So next year I say it's Hermy barring a move by KW to bring somenone in here.

He has had one relief appearance and failed to throw a fastball for consistant strikes. Call me an ass for it being "jitters" but this was the knock against the kid in the minor leagues as well.

 

I don't believe he'll be anything special until he can throw consistant strikes.

No he wasn't throwing his fastball for strikes the time he got hit but he also wasn't throwing anything else but fastballs. I think he needs to mix his pitches and just don't rely on the fastball all the time.

 

I think he will be ok, to become our closer he needs to have consistency. If he succeeds he adds a lot to our bullpen so im praying.

I wouldn't think Jenks would be traded, but with Kenny you never know. He's certainly at least a year from being an effective MLB Reliever from the looks of things.

No I don't think he'll be traded. The Sox are gonna need a future closer, and they just can't keep on relying on FA or trades to fill that need, if they can develop somebody in-house, who's young and cheap, even better. That said, I can't see Jenks taking on the role until mid 2006 at the earliest, most likely the start of the 2007 year. Control was always going to be the issue for him, and he needs to be working on it as much as possible.

He's got the stuff though, no one doubts that.

I remember another guy who was thought to be a great closing prospect named Curt Schilling who had some mental problems, but from what I hear, he went on to have a pretty productive career. Then again, there are also the guys like Bobby Seay, who never put it together. Only time will tell, but hopefully, Jenks will be closer to the next Schilling than the next Seay.

Bobby Jenks is such a good baseball name too......

He's got the stuff though, no one doubts that.

 

He's always had the stuff, the issue has always been control and consistency, not to mention mental stuff. He was shaky his second outing and I hope to see good things from him, but to be a good reliever you have to be consistant.
