Seeing how Bobby Jenks can throw, and the kind of job Dustin Hermanson's doing this year, brings up this poll.

Who your choice for Sox closer?

Hmmm Hermanson is 31/34 in save chances...

Wow, that's a hard one!

Dustin, he's earned it if he is healthy IMHO.

Hermanson has been solid all year and I dont really trust a rookie who has been with the team for only a month. Let Hermanson be the closer for this season and then next year we could try Jenks there if Hermanson struggles.

Hermanson. He has yet to severely falter.

That sounds like an idea.

It's a big "what if?",if Hermanson sputters (hope not) then the closer's role is safe with Jenks in it.Next year sounds about right.

It's nice to have this problem, especially when a lot of teams are struggling to find ONE solid closer. Hermanson is my choice for #1, but if it looks like it's not going to be his day, I have no problem bringing in Jenks.

Realistically i don't want jenks into the closers year for at the very least two years. I am not the biggest fan of hermanson but i want to see how jenks can hand the 7th/8th inning before throwing him into the closers role. You have ease him into the role in my opinion. You have to remember he has very little triple a experience and his confidence is not exactly top notch. If he blows his first two save opputunities next year, we might have big problems.

Even K-Rod didn't close for the champs, we can use Jenks VERY effectively in the 7th and 8th in the playoffs

True,true.

Sure it may be too soon for Jenks to close games. But still, you can't deny his stuff on the mound. That's how I have him too,as a great set up man.But once he gets the experience, then I think Jenks can be a great closer in the future.

Heh! :bang

whats with everyone jumping on Jenks' nutz. He is good, but he isn't proven, and has no experience. Let the kid learn a little first. Hermie has over 30 saves and only 3 blown, all that with a bum back. I gotta go with what works. If it aint broke dont fix it.

Hermanson - 22

Jenks - 9

Jumping on Jenks' nuts?

I think the consensus is for Hermanson to remain at closer seeing how he's gotten us this far and has yet to falter. Jenks can stay in his setup role and when the time is right the closer's role may open up for him.

I don't see how anyone can vote for Jenks at this point.

you have to go w/ hermy, you have to.

jenks is a GREAT back up plan and i'm grateful to have him, but make hermy lose the job

Hermy. He's done nothing but succeed with the Sox and is pitching despite being in a whole lot of pain. Jenks has a future as a closer, but that future isn't yet.

I want to see him get at least another year of experience in the pen before we make him the closer. The nice thing is he'll probably get a little more experience in late relief next season and the Sox will still have Hermy around as well.

Hermanson, this should be a no contest.

Should be. I cant believe that Jenks has gotten 22 votes.

Healthy Hermanson

Unhealthy Jenks/Committee

Shouldn't that be the jist of this thread?

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Jon Adkins or Kevin Walker.
