October 29, 200520 yr QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 02:40 PM) Carl Everett b****ed about where he was batting in the lineup about two weeks prior to the end of the season. The Sox were able to overcome that, weren't they? I'd take Manny on this team in a HEARTBEAT! That was part of the full organizational collapse, correct?
October 29, 200520 yr QUOTE(rventura23 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) We do NOT need Manny Ramirez. He is a phenominal hitter, but hes lazy, complains too much, and is bad for the clubhouse I'm surprised that no one mentions this (in sports media), but Carl Everett was mr bad news baseball prior to joining the Sox. I'm not sure that the "bad for the club house" arguement always works. that being said, Pass. *edited because I didn't read ahead:)*
October 29, 200520 yr He could DH for my team but that's about it. If I had to watch this lazy slug in left field I would puke. It really doesn't matter though, we aren't paying $20 million for a DH.

The Sox were able to overcome that, weren't they? I'd take Manny on this team in a HEARTBEAT! Yeah. If Ozzie is as good a manager as we all think he is -- I happen to think that he's as advertised w/r/t keeping things loose and fun (or 'fung') in the clubhouse -- then he'll be fine with Manny. Especially if Manny continues putting up 150 OPS+ seasons...
October 29, 200520 yr QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) That was part of the full organizational collapse, correct? Well said. And yes, there was a loss of composure by quite a few members of the organization. Like I mentioned in a thread the other day, the whole thing turned around when Everett had his 2 rbi triple at Detroit in the 5th inning.
October 29, 200520 yr I think the team would get along great with Manny. I could just see Buehrle and Manny doing the whole pointing thing, etc. We're basically playing with house money right now. Why not take a chance?

October 29, 200520 yr QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 01:26 PM) I love people can say with certainty that he was bad for the clubhoues. Excuse me, were you in the clubhouse? Did you see how his teammates acted around him in the clubhouse? Were you a reporter who saw what he did in the clubhouse? Please answer all these questions, and when the answers to all of them are "No," I suggest you stop talking ASAP. A post that makes sense? What?! Crazyness. Anyway, I agree with you. I don't remember his teammates ever b*tching about him or any of his prior managers or even Francona prior to this year. I have yet to hear about a player who dislikes Manny.
October 29, 200520 yr Considering the Mets have reportedly offered Mike Cameron, Aaron Heilman, Lastings Milledge and a plethora of other prospects I don't think that deal would cut it.

Crazyness. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This coming from the person who was vying for Robert Person over Hernandez as the fifth starter, and was throwing Rowand under a bus 15 games into the season.. Enough said. :headshake

October 29, 200520 yr I'd rather resign Frank on the cheap and hope he can stay healthy enough to DH. We would have to give up a bunch of players/prospects for Manny and we would also have to take on his brutal contract. Resign Frank to a cheap contract and if he gets injured again, use Dye as our DH and put Brian Anderson out in right field. Of course, I'm assuming that we keep Konerko which may not be what happens. Afterall, we have to give Frank $3.5 million anyways. May as well tack on a few more millions and keep him. Edited October 29, 200520 yr by SSH2005

Frank would be our big offseason acquisition to keep on chugging foward.

If he were to come here, I'm pretty sure we would have to wave bye-bye to Garland. Garland + (pieces) = Manny + Papelbon?
October 29, 200520 yr If he were to come here, I'm pretty sure we would have to wave bye-bye to Garland. Garland + (pieces) = Manny + Papelbon? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Red Sox won't be trading Papelbon.
October 29, 200520 yr You are probably right though, Garland would most likely have to be involved. It's a little odd to consider, but how much is Manny overpayed? Everyone here keeps referencing that he's overpayed. Well okay, he's making 20 million dollars, he's a superior player to Konerko who people are throwing 15+ at. I would say he's making only 3-5 million more than he's worth. What do you think?
