Ya....no.

Gaby Hernandez is a pretty damn good prospect, hell if i had to chose between him or Lo Duca, it's not even close. Give me Gaby by a mile.

They're going to load up on prospects, then when they move, these prospects will be ready and they'll be a good team.

I'm sure they feel nobody will care, so tank a year or two, move, then be good.

Just watch what the Marlins gouge the Cubs of for Pierre. They may be dumping good players but they are also dumping a ton of salary and getting some pretty good prospects for the future in return. I doubt the 95 existing Marlins fans really care anyways.

Outside of here and other sox sites, it's my most visited baseball board.

I don't know. I like what they got in exchange for Beckett, Delgado & Lo Duca. I think the Castillo trade is the only move where they didn't get as much as they could have.

Lo Duca isn't even that great a player. Career .756 OPS, including only two seasons with an OPS over .732. The Marlins got the better of this deal, so no, I dont find this BS at all.

I thought Travis Bowyer was supposed to have some real nasty stuff. The Marlins are looking at him as this years closer, no?

Well most Marlin fans certainly don't think so. They're tired of getting pitching prospects. Lo Duca was also pretty liked and believe it or not stats and ops aren't everything especially when it comes to catchers.

He does and yes they are. Like I said in my last post, Marlins fans are getting kind of angry that they're only getting pitching prospects. Also, for Luis Castillo you should be able to get more then a relief prospect and another decent one.

I live in florida, i am near tampa, so not much marlin fans here.

But not one person has said a word to me about the marlins. Ever.

Their either Yankee fans, Red sox Fans, or Devil Ray fans that really dont care a dam about baseball.

But i havent heard a thing about the firesale by one person at skool, or by some1 around here, shows how little fans they have.

That, or mayb i live a bit to far north.

=o

I heard castillo was willing to stay and train ramirez or whatever prospect they had.

(this came from the marlinsbaseball site.)

It was just hyperbole but there's still not very many Marlins fans in general. There's too many damn old people in southern Florida that don't go to games. :P

True, but Lo Duca doesn't play good defense behind the plate and has a weak arm. He's a good game-caller but what does that matter when the Marlins are going to be losing a ton of games with or without Lo Duca anyways?

This might be true, but its not like they got nothing in return. They got a pretty good prospect, and considering the fact that Lo Duca is 34 and his talent is declining, thats pretty damn good. He throws out 25% of the base runners who try stealing on him (hey, its an increase for Mets fans), and his defense isn't that great according to ESPN's scouting report (although they do think that Jeter is one of the best in the league, so they aren't always right). If he could hit, then ok, this would be a good deal for the Mets. But considering the fact that Lo Duca is old, bad at defense, and not special offensively, the Marlins got away with murder in this trade.

He's brilliant at handling a pitching staff, which is the most important thing a catcher does imo. Like you said though they did get a pretty solid prospect and it's a fine deal, I'm just saying Marlins fans are tired of only getting pitching prospects in these deals, they want some positional spects.

They basically replaced Piazza with a slightly younger version of Piazza without the power. They could have just signed Bengie Molina or Ramon Hernandez and not given up the prospects.

That's the part I don't understand. Molina is just an awesome defensive catcher(including handling a staff) and he would not have cost any prospects. Molina is also a solid hitting catcher, great in the clutch so he would have been a great pick up. Aw well, it's the Mets.

Basically, yea. This is definitely a downgrade at catcher for the Mets, except if you look at who their catcher was before this trade, but considering the fact they could have signed either Molina or Hernandez, its a bad move for them, and a great move for the Marlins.

You guys are right, and it's even worse when you realize that the Mets will be paying Lo Duca $6.25 million in 2006 and 2007. The Mets are so very dumb.

Holy crap. I didn't even realize his salary was that high. This is actually a pretty funny trade when you step back and look at it.

Not when Castillo's hip is a big big question mark. Many scouts say he's speed and burst is just done, and the rest of his game might be next. People weren't willing to give up a whole lot to take on a 5 million 2b who may or may not be able to play everyday.

It's even worse when you realize that both Bengie Molina and Ramon Hernandez want around $6-$7 million a year and are far better catchers than Lo Duca. This trade just makes no sense whatsoever and I can see why Mets fans are pissed off about it.
