The Count possibly to the Astros?

From the other Sox message board...

Phil Rogers said on WSCR that he thinks the Sox will get Tejada by next week
Rogers said one of three pitchers will go either Contreras,Garcia or Vazquez plus Uribe

I didn't hear Phil Rogers say this myself. I know Rogers is like the Sam Smith of the MLB. He speculates on almost every trade scenario. But it's the same rumor that was already out there of Contreras, Uribe, and prospect(s) for Tejada.

If Freddy goes, Ozzie would go crazy.

If Count goes, this board goes crazy.

If Vazquez goes, I'll be happy as hell.

[edit]

Wait, wasn't Phil Rogers the same guy who said there would be a 4 team trade? If so, this has lost all its validity from my perspective.

Hopefully my last post in this thread.. its become a joke.

Are you blind, or just have a 3 second memory?

I hope it's your last post as well, as those who engage in ad hominemattacks are intellectually worthless.

Dictionary

That 4 way deal that supposedly is on the table with the Mets, Tampa, and Boston nets the Orioles Lugo, who is a free agent after 2006, Kris Benson who has never been very good, and his wife, while awfully hot, is a pain in the ass and Matt Clement. 2 overpaid pitchers and an average SS who will head to the hills after the season. The Sox if they were to give up Contreras, Uribe and a minor leaguer would seem to be the better deal. Plus, you don't have Tejada making 3 trips into your park every year to rub it in your face. I still think the Orioles would prefer to trade him to the NL.

Why?

Because we all know how important JC an FG were to us in the playoffs, and out of the three of them, JV has done nothing for the team since he really cant because there are no games right now.

I really think that the White Sox have the advantage over the Red Sox in getting Tejada. I know that the Orioles still want to get the most value for Tejada, but trading him to a division rival?

How did this thread get to 18 pages?

i think that is b'mores only reason for not trading tejada to boston, besides money.

It seems I'm really overrating Prior, even over the O's. I know in Sullivan's article he said O's basically told the Cubs no Zambrano no deal. But with all these names being thrown around I would want Prior out of any of them. Trust me, by no means am I a Cubs fan, but he is younger than Jose and a lot better than Benson or Clement. I think if the Cubs do a similar deal but put Pie or Cedeno in there the Cubs would have the inside track.

Contreras would be a good pick up for Baltimore. If he continues to dominate, you know they won't be in contention, they could trade him at the deadline for a slew of prospects. Angelos saves more money to try and sign free agents next year, plus they have some more young players to add to the mix.

I'll say it again for you, nice and simply:

When shooting for a second WS victory and the need to fill a hole at one position, players who are very good defensively, have great speed on the bases, and are at least adequate at the plate are preferable to players with little or no MLB experience. On one hand, you have a player who has had at least some success in the majors and you have a good idea of what you're going to get the following season. On the other hand, young players who haven't had time to adjust to major-league pitching are big question marks. If they don't make the adjustment quickly enough (or at all), they could be liabilities down the stretch.

Tejada for Manny and Clement would be a nice haul if you don't factor in the massive salary difference ($20 million?), the fact that they would be sending Tejada to their rival, and the fact that Clement is looking more and more like a mediocre pitcher since his horrible second half with the Cubs in 2004.

I agree, but maybe there is concern about his elbow. He wasn't the same after he came back. I also think the Cubs would have an advantage to acquiring him because they are in the NL. If they did this other trade and Tejada came to Baltimore as a Red Sox and hammered Benson and Clement on back to back nights, the Orioles front office would be idiots in their fans eyes, not that they aren't already.

We won't know until the oppourtunity is given to BA to patrol center, and it has been given to him, so we will find out in 06 how he does.

And those who receive such vicious, humiliating e-beatdowns should just kinda fade away, if you know what I'm saying.

Well, that's fair. Vasquez was mediocre in New York, but so was Contreras. I certainly like Vasquez better in the long run and think that it would be a mistake to re-sign an aging pitcher like Contreras. So, IMO, I'd rather deal Contreras if it came to that. That said, I'd rather not deal ANY of our starters at this point.
