March 2, 200620 yr What the hell is going on lately with veterans being signed to minor league deals (Marquis Grissom, and I believe there's another...)?
March 2, 200620 yr Author Can we seriously stop with the Don Cooper = God stuff? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Never. Cooper could bring back Jim Parque and turn him into a stud.
March 2, 200620 yr QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 06:56 PM) Can we seriously stop with the Don Cooper = God stuff? Why should we? Look what he has done.
March 2, 200620 yr QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 04:40 PM) I am gona go on record right now saying Nomo will be a great surprise to the White Sox bullpen this year. "I'm surprised a baseball could fly that far off of a bat. Wow."
March 2, 200620 yr QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 08:59 PM) Why should we? Look what he has done. If that's the case, let's trade for Kerry Wood and bring Mike Sirotka back.
March 2, 200620 yr QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 07:57 PM) What the hell is going on lately with veterans being signed to minor league deals (Marquis Grissom, and I believe there's another...)? That's what happens when a guy is old and bad.
March 2, 200620 yr Yeah, I guess I didn't mention from what I SAW (which was very little), Nomo wasn't that good. I don't know about Marquis, though.
March 2, 200620 yr QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 07:00 PM) If that's the case, let's trade for Kerry Wood and bring Mike Sirotka back. Who would we have to give up for Kerry?
March 2, 200620 yr This has little to no risk involved. But it could have a decent upside. At worst Nomo can eat some innings in AAA.
March 2, 200620 yr QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 09:04 PM) Who would we have to give up for Kerry? Are you serious.
March 2, 200620 yr QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 06:57 PM) What the hell is going on lately with veterans being signed to minor league deals (Marquis Grissom, and I believe there's another...)? This happens every year. How do you think the Sox acquired Loaiza? They signed his old bad ass to minor league deal and invited him to spring training.
March 2, 200620 yr Author Who would we have to give up for Kerry? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> A new labrum? This happens every year. How do you think the Sox acquired Loaiza? They signed his old bad ass to minor league deal and invited him to spring training. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And then he learned a sick cutter and made himself a pitching god for one season. March 2, 200620 yr QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 05:04 PM) Who would we have to give up for Kerry? $10 million dollars. And our dignity.
March 2, 200620 yr Author Who would we have to give up for Kerry? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> A spot on the DL.
March 2, 200620 yr Author From Scott Reifert's blog: Nomo The White Sox are close to signing Japanese pitcher Hideki Nomo to a Triple-A contract. If he does sign with the Sox, Nomo would be in minor-league camp, which begins on March 4. http://suntimes.com/output/sox/sox01.html Notes: White Sox officials are talking to the agent for RHP Hideo Nomo about a minor league contract. Nomo started 19 games for Tampa Bay last season, going 5-8 with a 7.24 ERA. He broke in with the Dodgers in 1995. He has a 123-109 career record. Edited March 2, 200620 yr by SSH2005
March 2, 200620 yr QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) From Scott Reifert's blog: I thought his name was Hideo, not Hideki. Is hideo like a nickname or something. Or is that just a typo?
March 2, 200620 yr QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 07:12 PM) A spot on the DL. LOL...besides a bag of balls
March 2, 200620 yr Author I thought his name was Hideo, not Hideki. Is hideo like a nickname or something. Or is that just a typo? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think it was a typo. JapaneseBaseball.com lists his name as Hideo. Reifert was probably thinking of Hideki Matsui or Hideki Irabu and made the mistake.
March 2, 200620 yr Well there's no conspiracy theory on the Sox suddenly wanting to deal Freddy Garcia or Jose Contreras since they are gonna sign Nomo at least. But yes Charlotte needs arms, albeit Nomo's has absolutely nothing left. I thought he retired and went back to Japan at the end of the 2004 season though?

Remember, Dye hit a grand slam off of him? The Devil Rays cut him loose and the Yankees picked him up but he stayed in the minors with them. With the AAA Columbus Clippers, Nomo went 2-3 with a 3.62 ERA. Edited March 2, 200620 yr by SSH2005

March 2, 200620 yr Rotoworld sarcasm: Hideo Nomo - S - Yankees White Sox officials are talking to the agent for free agent Hideo Nomo about a minor league contract. We're not sure whether that means they want to sign Nomo or his agent. They'd have similar chances of making the club. Mar. 1 - 8:02 pm et
