yeah, i'd agree to that. And that's enough. When the majority of your staff has career years, you're going to succeed.

But you could argue that Dye had a great year compared to what he's done in the past, Pods had a pretty good year (except for the 2nd half) etc.

Neither of those two had career years however, and as for Pods, half a year does not make a whole season good. Dye has always been a solid player when healthy, so moving to USCF would naturally improve his offense, if he stayed healthy. He stayed healthy, so his numbers increased.

And Dye could have had a career year if he didn't start out so slow in the first month and a half of 2005, he was fantastic after that period.

 

Pods I was still happy with his numbers, even considering the injury he had in the 2nd half, because after his numbers in 2004, you still weren't sure if he was going to bounce back to the numbers he produced in 2003.

I am probably more concerned than I need to be, but I just dont have a good feeling going into the year.

 

I really think we caught alot of luck last year with the injury bug, and I dont know if the luck can last. If it can, I think we should be alright. If everyone is healthy, are starters cam go 1200 innings, and middle relief wont be a problem like it very well could.

 

I also assume a move will be made at the deadline, getting whatever it is we need at the time....

He also thinks that Thornton will be as good as Vizcaino... at worst.

 

I said that because I thought Vizcaino was terrible (many shared that opinion). I watched a bunch last year and I was never glad that Vizcaino was coming in a game, as was the case with many on this board. He was basically the last guy out of the pen last year, which is the role I think Thornton is going to fill. At least it isn't a guy who has only been a minor leaguer.

Vizcaino looks like Mariano Rivera next to Thornton, and I didn't like Vizcaino either.

Teams play 30 games in the spring. Everybody wins 10 and loses 10, its the other 10 that don't matter.

Vizcaino was above average (I'm hesitant to use "above" average, but at the very least, he was average) last year, despite what most people here think. He isn't exactly easy to replace in the bullpen, and I have a feeling a lot of people will be begging to have him back after Thornton begins to pitch.

 

If I'm wrong, good, that means Coop was able to fix Thornton, and the Sox are better off. But I'm willing to bet that I won't be wrong.
