March 28, 200619 yr QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 10:47 PM) Tigers fans called him Karlos Pena. Kinda like Korey Patterson. Uh oh, you have a rival for the clever nickname competition. March 28, 200619 yr QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 11:47 PM) Tigers fans called him Karlos Pena. Kinda like Korey Patterson. If by Karlos Pena you mean giant piece of s***, then yes, they called him Karlos Pena.
March 28, 200619 yr If by Karlos Pena you mean giant piece of s***, then yes, they called him Karlos Pena. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Most Tigers fans hated him but I guess they still have Jeremy Bonderman to show for the Jeff Weaver trade.
March 28, 200619 yr Yea, but Pena is 2 years younger than Gload, and might put up some better numbers in the future. I'm not saying we should sign up, especially as money is an object, and trading away Borchard makes Gload's relative versatility a virtue. Yea, I really can't believe the story of Choi, dude does nothing but put up good numbers for a cheap contract, and he keeps getting shown the door. Doesn't make much snese to me.
March 28, 200619 yr QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 11:48 PM) Polanco >>>>>>> Infante -- Both offensively and defensively. Plus why would you want to remove Inge from the line-up only to be replaced by Infante? I am still not sold on Inge everyday. I think he is better suited to the UTL roll. 23 errors at 3B, so it's not concerned at defense, Infante had 13 less errors. Inge is a career .238, Infante is a career .246. I think allowing Inge to move around would help him, as he played every position two years ago. It's not Polanco vs Infante, it's Polanco 3B/Infante 2B vs Polanco 2B/Inge 3B too.

With the Tigers staff, they need to score as much as possible. Inge has developed into a decent hitter since he moved from C. He's also one of the rangiest 3B in the game, which makes up for his errors. I don't know how you can make up for a .250 OBP like Infante posted last year. I think he should consult Timo for that one.
March 28, 200619 yr Hey, would it be accurate to say that the AL has 7 of the 10 best teams in the majors this year? New York Boston Chicago Cleveland Minnesota Anaheim Oakland St. Louis Houston Atlanta Call me crazy, but that's how I see it. Put the Twins in the NL East or the NL West, and they're Division winners IMO. The Wild Card Race in the AL is going to be insane this year. Edited March 28, 200619 yr by hammerhead johnson

I don't think Houston should be in that list (losing Clemens is a huge blow), nor should Minnesota. Since right now we are only talking about teams on paper, the Mets should be there, as should the Phillies. But yes, the AL is much better than the NL. Edited March 28, 200619 yr by Felix

Bonderman is a hurler, Kenny Rogers will have fun with the cameramen in the big D, Robertson and Maroth arn't terrible, and Verlander is kinda like BMac to us as we may get a prize, may not. I like Roman Colon too. Their pen, well their pen sucks. They have power too. Mags, IRod, Monroe, Thames, Shelton, Polanco, Guillen... not terrible, not great, but still.

You forgot Toronto who would also win the east or west in the nl imo.
March 28, 200619 yr Atlanta's bullpen sucks balls, too. They have a few too many raw position players. Putting them in the Top 10 is a stretch, actually.

March 28, 200619 yr I like Toronto but A.J. Burnett might be on the DL to start the season and their infield defense looks pretty terrible -- Glaus at 3B, Russ Adams at SS, and Aaron Hill at 2B.
March 28, 200619 yr QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 11:07 PM) Who would you take out of that group? All the nl teams. Atlanta would probably be the team though cause as you noted, they have serious bullpen issues and now no Leo. The NL is really awful this year.

Putting them in the Top 10 is a stretch, actually. Hudson, Smoltz, Sosa, Thomson (assuming not dealt), & Ramierez. They have a solid core, I'd take the Mets over them, but the Mets do that every year. Renteria could have a turn around, Giles, Jones, Jones, Larouche, Francouer, McCann was good in playoffs. They're the Braves too. Leo Mazzone is gone though, if they get bullpen and stay healthy, they'll be fine.

March 28, 200619 yr QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Mar 28, 2006 -> 05:10 AM) They're the Braves too. Yep, that's why I put them in the Top 10, but that bullpen is one of the three or four worst in the majors. That is what I would call a devastating weakness.

That's not much of an argument for Infante. The only thing he's got going for him is he's young. But that ship sailed when they signed Polanco long-term. Inge is their best 3B offensively and defensively Polanco is their best 2B offensively and defensively Guillen is their best SS offensively and defensively. All of which spells lots of time on the pine for Infante.

March 28, 200619 yr Mets & Phils, who steps up? = Heilman & Madson, who steps up? The Mets look good. The Phils, who knows. If they hadn't traded Padilla for jack s***, I'd think they had something. Still, with Utley and Howard, who knows?

Where did Inge have his best year? As a UTL.
