Ouch ...

Jim, here's my question to you.

Hawk just said something on TV to the effect of:

"It's tough for the Sox to expect Podsednik to be hitting on all cylindars, afterall, he didn't play for the whole spring training."

Well, then, why isn't he at Charlotte right now getting in his "spring training"?  You know what I'm saying?  I can't see a guy like Jerry Owens doing a whole lot worse than Pods is right now, and if Pods isn't at 100% health, he's a pretty ineffective ballplayer, IMO.

Two answers to this.

They want this team to gel and one sure way to impede good chemistry is by bumping people around the lineup. Dropping a guy out of the leadoff spot after 5-6 games would be perceived by the players as panic move IMO. They are gonna let this team gel and since Posednik is such an important part of things he will get every chance to work things out here at the big league level. Plus I don't think they can just send Podsednik down, they'd have to DL him for 15 days and then put him on a rehab assignment.

The second part is Jerry Owens, he didn't have a good spring at all and I think they want to get him into a good groove.

was that the throwing arm??

not Buehrle...

please dont be hurt....

Anyone else notice how many balls are getting hit to the warning track and run down by the outfielders. While it's a good sign about our outfield defense and hopefully not missing Rowand too much out there, it's a little worrisome that the Royals are clocking Buehrle's pitches so hard.

BA can't really hit a curveball can he??

Brian jsut looks silly out there.

He can't hit much of anything against righties right now. He needs to be a lot more aggressive at the plate.

Dye started last year hitting about .150 through the first month and Ozzie stuck with him in the five and six spots. I wouldn't expect Pods to be moving any time soon. Hopefully he's working with Walker every day trying to get a rhythm.

And Pods continues the trend ...

1 for 20.

Fair enough.

I'm just saying, if Hawk -- the homer of all homers -- is conceding that Podsednik probably isn't ready (ABs wise, and who knows, maybe even health wise), then that's probably a good indication that he isn't ready.

Your answer on Owens is a good and reasonable one, too. Mid-June or so, though, he should probably be ready.

Pods continues to do nothing

Butters strikes out an awful lot.

Very awful 1-2-3 for the Sox

Some of the moves suggested on this board border on schizophrenic. This manager is gonna show faith in his team and in his players. That's been proven.

Jermaine Dye would've been traded or benched or released 100 times on this board last year. It's crazy. KW has repeatedly said they will have faith in their offseason decisions.

I trust things will change, but man there are some easy outs in our lineup right now, not the least of which is BA. They're getting that guy out on 3 pitches.

I hope so, I think they'll need him at some point this season.

Pods stinks

1st hit...DAMN

How fast would you say Owens is? Faster than a 100%-healthy Podsednik?

The reason I ask is because his stolen base percentage hasn't been real good, IIRC. I know he was a wide receiver at UCLA, so he's gotta be some athlete, huh?

There goes the No No.

Inning over.

End of 5, 2-0 Sox
