April 23, 200619 yr From AP.com: Posted on Sun, Apr. 23, 2006 Mariners designate OF Joe Borchard Associated Press SEATTLE - The Seattle Mariners designated outfielder Joe Borchard for assignment and recalled pitcher Clint Nageotte from Triple-A Tacoma before Sunday's game with the Detroit Tigers. Seattle has 10 days to trade, release or assign Borchard to the minor leagues. The 27-year-old former Chicago White Sox first-round draft pick appeared in only six of the Mariners' first 19 games, with two starts in center field. He was 2-for-9. Seattle had traded left-hander Matt Thornton, its 1998 first-round choice, to Chicago for Borchard on March 20. But Jeremy Reed has since recovered from a sprained wrist and re-established himself as the Mariners' regular center fielder. Plus, reserve outfielder Matt Lawton has returned from a 10-day suspension for testing positive for steroids. Nageotte, 25, made his major league debut with Seattle in 2004. He also pitched in three Mariners games last season and has a career record of 1-6 with a 7.30 ERA in 15 games, five starts. He was 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA in three starts with Tacoma this season.
April 23, 200619 yr The "poor guy" also got a $5.5 million signing bonus. Nothing against Joe, but I'm not going to shed a tear for a multi-millionaire who can't hack it in the majors.
April 23, 200619 yr Joe suffers from a terrible case of being bad. However I wish him the best and hope he continues to enjoy the 5.5 million dollar bonus. Edited April 23, 200619 yr by whitesoxfan101
April 24, 200619 yr Abercrombie has been better of late but he'd be a great pickup for FLorida. I think I'm gonna bet on Pittsburgh though for his landing spot
April 24, 200619 yr Alot of athletes have made a mistake in their lives on something that could had changed their careers in some way even though noone could really blame them cause eigher it was for $, striving to be the best, or had a bigger ego/cockier (Tyson Chandler not going to college, Palmeiro taking steriods maybe costing himself the HOF, Drew Henson playing baseball instead of football etc.. etc..) Borchard will probably be included in this list when it's all said and done.
April 24, 200619 yr He still has a shot. There are several teams that can use a 4th OFer that will take a shot on him. If he does get claimed, the M's basically got nothing for Thornton.

Borchard will probably be included in this list when it's all said and done. Palmeiro didn't cost himself a chance at the HOF with steroids. He built himself a 15 year career with the steroids and gave himself a shot at the HOF with the steroids.
