Maddux was crying like a little b**** all day long about his strike zone and the the Flubby announcers were wailing about it right along with em.

 

 

Its f***ing funny to watch Maddux get slapped around and its all because the Sox hitters were patient at the plate and didn't swing at his garbage. You force Maddux to get it over and he's done.

I've always appreciated Maddux's feist on the field. DJ was talking about Maddux yelling at him one time, and it was great.

 

Don't get me wrong, though. He's so used to being pampered by the umpires that he throws a fit when he's not, for sure. But I appreciate spunk in my players.

Buehrle didn't have much trouble with that "small strike zone", only gave up 1 hard hit ball that fell in, and no earned runs. Maddux blows, washed up guy saw what's it's like to face a real lineup today. He WAS a great pitcher, keyword being was.

Yeah, that more than him b****ing at the ump was what surprised me about Maddux today. I never remember him losing his composure so much because runners were on base.

I don't know if they showed it on TV or not, but after Pods stole 2nd in the 6th Maddux turned around and it looked like he said something. I told my wife he better not be b****ing about a stolen base with a 6-1 Sox lead, This is not the National League! Maybe he knew with his team that a 6-1 lead was pretty much going to hold up

Anyone else notice Maddux regularly blowing into his pitching hand and not bothering to wipe it off before touching the ball? I thought this was only allowed in cold-weather games, and the pitcher has to be off the rubber.

 

As if those attempts at cheating weren't enough, he wiped his pitching hand across his forehead, then brought that sweat on the ball.

The umpires had to have given the pitchers permission to go to their mouths on the mound. They'll do that if the think it's cool enough.

Buehrle didn't have trouble with the zone at all, as ESPN just reported he threw a measley 72 strikes out of 105 pitches!

 

It was a great game yesterday, and comical to me to see Maddux get all fired up about the zone. I was counting down the seconds until he complained enough to get run out.

While I believe Maddux was a great pitcher and is still a very good one, he got a LOT of favors from home-plate umpires over the years. Never saw him complain that a called strike was actually 3 inches outside, so he really shouldn't complain now.

I think Dan Plesac nailed it when he mentioned that Maddux losing a couple MPH off his fastball has lessened the difference between his fastball and his change, so if his location and movement aren't perfect he's very hittable.

Maddux lived for years feasting on umpires generous strikezones. He had a bad day.

You could plainly hear Maddux yell "Goddammit!" after the umpire gave him a called ball which led to the umpire getting into it with him. I was surprised as well.

Maddux is probably inching up on the pitching rubber like Sutcliffe did in his final years.

The thing that really stood out to me yesterday about Maddux was the way he looked when Thome took him deep.

 

After the game in the PC he said, "Thome's good, man." It cracked me up.
