I played him my freshman year. The guy is good. Good control, and I believe he has improved his velocity every year. Shoule be in the high 80's now.

I saw Kapteyn pitch as well (a close friend of mine's cousin goes to Illiana). As SF1 said, very good control and a fastball that probably is in the 88-90 range now if scouting and common sense are correct based on him growing into his body as he gets older.

On CSN, they said he tops out at 94 so someone was longtossing over the summer.

Kyle McCulloch doesn't sound to bad for the #1 pick. Will have to keep a what on futuresox to see how things come along.

I think it is unusual that we drafted 5 2b and 4 3b, while drafting zero shortstops. On most teams, shortstops are your best players and atheletes.

I can't say too much b/c I haven't been able to follow the draft as much as I normally have the past couple of years, but one guy I'd think we'd have a good shot at signing would be Tyler Wright (34th round), a CF out of South Florida CC.

 

First of all, he's a redraft from last year; we got him in the 24th round last year, though. Right after last year's draft he was told by the Sox that he was drafted as a draft and follow candidate. And while we didn't sign him before the draft as a D and F, we did redraft him, so you know someone in the organization must really like him.

 

Anyway, he's supposed to be very fast and strong for his size (6'0'', 190). He put on 15 lbs. in just his one year of college, and could probably add more. He's quite an athlete too, considering he was the starting tailback for 2 or 3 years (can't remember which) on his high school football team, which is pretty impressive considering he's from the state of Florida, which produces the best football talent in the country along with Texas.

 

To make a comparison to someone in our own minor league system, I'd have to say he's like a Jerry Owens type, with the potential to add more power as he continues to grow. (Remember, he just turned 19 in April). His coach at South Florida seemed very optimistic about Wright's ability to add some power to his speed game as well. Lastly, to go along with his natural ability, Wright is also supposed to have a great work ethic, have a high baseball IQ, and is said to be a pretty hard-nosed player.

We seem to have gotten our first interview for FutureSox. A top ten round pick.

I'm fairly certain you guys will definitely get interviews with at least the top 2 picks, so if I had to guess someone else that yall probably got an interview with, I'd have to say it was either Omogrosso or Cruz. They pretty much have to sign since they're seniors, and yall wouldn't want to do an interview with someone that could end up not signing.

I'm going to start relooking the draft about tomorrow. Just got back from playing 54 holes of golf in 2 days time. Lost a lot of golf balls in the process.

 

There were a few 2nd day picks with a lot of upside, those picks starting @ 19 and 20. Two guys that will want top 10 money (if not better).

Ok, I'll play the "guess who the interview is" game, and I'll say Justin Edwards.
