July 27, 200619 yr I am still holding out hope that KW will bring in Crawford, and that he is super ninja top secret negoitiations with the Rays right now. We could probably swing a deal involving only minor leaguers plus Pods. I really am torn on Fields, he reminds me in a lot of ways of Joe Borchard, but then again, he may be our next 1B after Thome retires with Paulie moving to DH.
July 27, 200619 yr QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) Umm, that's pretty excessive, that's one of the top offensive prospects in all of baseball (#1 Sox spect), a young stud arm, another top 5-10 Sox prospect (Broadway is probably the #1 pitching spect in the Sox system now that Lummy is gone) and then you have 2 more pitchers? Naw, they want a lot but they won't be finding anyone who's going to give them anything like that. Considering the D-Rays don't have to trade Crawford, it would have to be a deal that they couldn't refuse, such as a 4 or 5 players for him. Nothing less than BMac IMO would be acceptable for the Drays. They see how much Kazmir means to them. Getting more pitching is the key for them. While Pods could be a decent fill in for them at a cheap price [and a tradeable commodity] and could take the place of Fields in a deal, pitchers like Bmac, Broadway, Phillips, Tracey and Haeger might have to go
July 27, 200619 yr I don't think the Sox will bring in Crawford or Baldelli although either one or both would be tremendous. Anderson has been hitting better lately but he really needs to step up and pick it up on the road. He has 1 home run and 4 RBI on the road this season. To put it in perspective, the White Sox starting CF has the exact same amount of home runs and rbi on the road this season as Carlos Zambrano does for the Cubs. The offense is sputtering, which was pretty easy to see was going to happen. Too many guys were too hot for it to continue. Anderson's bat is needed more than ever, as is some solid performances by the pitching staff.

The call for a CRawford/ Baldelli type would be to replace Pods, with Anderson possibly moving to LF or staying in CF.

He's by far our best defensive outfielder, and he's so good it's going to be nearly impossible for us to find someone better.

I'm just saying Brian could adjust to LF if say a Baldelli came aboard. Brian's versatile--another player may not be.
July 27, 200619 yr QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 04:17 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> To think we actually had people on this board wanting KW to trade Contreras to Houston for Taveras and a middle reliever. And that was AFTER the World Series. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=44962 Lots of gems in this thread: QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 11:36 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Taveras his something like .290 and stole over 30 bases last year... and plays a very solid CF. That's pretty far from a "scrub." QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 01:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't think anyone's automatically assuming. You are automatically assuming Taveras will be better in 2006 than he was in 2005, and you're automatically assuming he will outperform Anderson by so much its worth trading a #1 pitcher for him. That's not silly, its insane. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 02:25 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm dead serious here, do you huff gas before watching baseball? Pierre and Damon are atrocious center fielders and Sammy does not by any stretch of the imagination have a cannon for an arm. QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 02:41 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I disagree. Pierre's base-stealing prowess and higher OBP win more games. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 03:05 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If Brian Anderson can't put up a .666 OPS next season to match Willy Taveras's .666 OPS in 2005, I will eat my own pubic hairs. I'm more concerned with Anderson playing solid defense in center field and from most accounts he does.
July 27, 200619 yr QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) That last quote is priceless. LOL Well I guess the Pube Watch is on now as Brians OPS looks like it is .623
July 29, 200619 yr According to Buster Olney, appearantly the Red Sox offered Covelli Crisp to the Sox for "a pitcher" and the White Sox turned them down. Certainly interesting.
