Chicago named America's Best Sports City by Sporting News

Really, we should win every year, as anybody who has traveled even a little bit to other major cities knows that. But I guess it was easy this year between the Sox winning it all and having a 2 million plus fan parade, the Bulls making the playoffs again and adding Ben Wallace and 2 first round picks, the Bears winning the NFC North and not losing any starters, the Cubs DO sell out every game and play at Wrigley, which helps in this kind of thing even if we hate it, the Fire just opened an awesome new stadium, the Rush won the AFL, Northwestern made a bowl, hell even if you count DeKalb somehow (an hour drive away only if it's not rush hour ;)) NIU won it's league in the MAC in football and basketball this year. Just a great year for local sports all around, enjoy the success is all I can say to the uber local homers around here like I am.

Haha, I am on this topic. Chicago is so much better than anywhere else when it comes to sports, even if our newspapers are atrocious.

Is that the excuse he gives for where his fastball went?

I was expecting it to be New York. Great to see Chicago get some love :)

From what I've read/heard/seen, New Yorkers HATE sports! Well, at least they hate the individuals who play the sports and the managers who manage the sports! haha

lol nice.

Id say every year it really should be between Chicago and New York. You cant count LA because they dont have a NFL team and its their own fault too.

Didn't the Red Sox and Patriots win their respective sports' championships in the same year, as well as like the Celtics winning their division?

Oh yeah, that's right

I hate almost anything East Coast sports, but give a city it's due when it's necessary.

holy crap you couldn't be more wrong...

Two baseball teams (four actually, since a large percentage still follow the Gnats & Dodgers),

Two basketball

Three hockey (not sure if there was ever any whalers love outside of Hartford)

Two football

tons of collegiate sports

soccer

and this is all with Boston & Philly in fairly close proximity...

(hell, maybe even some Jai Alai fans there...)

It was a joke.

Reading this story and some of the responses to it on the SN web site reminds me of how far the Hawks have fallen from grace in this city. When the Fire start to out draw you, you know you have a problem. The NHL should really do something about this. If you can not draw fans in Chicago, the whole league is in trouble. But I will not pay to go see another Hawks game as long as Wirtz owns the team.
