ChiSox_Sonix
I dont know exactly how this works but since Owens was called up prior to Aug. 31 and was immediately put on the DL, does that, in essence, mean that there is an available playoff spot for himself or someone else (Hermanson, Sweeney, Logan)??? I remember the Frankie Rodriguez thing a few years back but not the actual details. Let's say we make the playoffs and we have some September call up who just plays great from here on out. Is there any way someone like a Logan or Hermanson (or someone else) could be elgibile to play through some loophole claiming someone was hurt and on the DL? southsider2k5
Hermanson and Owens are able to be added. I am not sure how Logan or someone like that would work for sure, but I believe someone else actually would have to go onto the DL for someone who was not on the 25 man, or on the DL at the deadline. Phuck the Cubs
Yes. You can DL someone to make room for a September call-up. I remember in 2004, it was in the papers, the Cubs put Ramon Martinez on the DL so Niefi Perez could be on the playoff roster.

A player on the DL can be replaced with someone else but it has to be for the same position, so a pitcher could not take his place. However, a Mr. Ryan Sweeney could if the league approves it.
