Torre's Job is Safe

Featured Replies

Piniella to be hired. That was quick.

Linkity .

They don't acutally say he's gone in anything but the headline, as far as I can tell.

Steinbrenner may have big changes in store for his $200 million ballclub and galaxy of All-Stars, who haven’t won a World Series since 2000. One of his moves could be trading third baseman Alex Rodriguez, who capped another forgettable October by going 1-for-14 (.071) and failing to drive in a run for the second straight postseason. Bernie Williams, Gary Sheffield and Mike Mussina may also bolt the Bronx.

And, New York manager Joe Torre is sure to feel some extra heat from the demanding Boss. After all, the Yankees are just 3-10 in the postseason since 2004.

Back to the 80s' revolving managers for The Boss.

This will blow up like Larry Brown did with the Knicks.

Pinella loves managing until he's doing it.

Steinbrenner would hire Billy Martin next if he was still alive.

I'm starting to wonder how much more time Torre has.

That didn't take long.

Here's thwe problem, it'snot how much money you throw at something, it's how you put the team together. Recent history has PROVEN that you dont need to spend 100+ million dollars to win the Series. Just put together a team that plays well together. The Yankees are all about trying to get every all-star player. It just doesnt work.

Look at a team like the SOx or even the 90s Bulls. Get a few star players and fill in the rest with good players.

This isnt Torre's falt. It's the fault of those above him.

The Yankees is dead

Ha Ha Ha

Just a couple weeks ago I took a call from a guy working the East Coast at my company. He belittled the flash in the pan White Sox the day they were eliminated. He reeled off the Yankee all-star lineup featuring 6 Hall of Famers and a Hall of Fame manager. He belittled Ozzie as a minor leaguer, etc, etc, etc. Said the only reason to watch the Sox was to see if they had any players that the Yankees might want later.

Now that the Yankees is dead I can only say Eat Your Liver, [expletive deleted]! In the papers they are talking about dumping ARod, Sheffield and Big Unit, and firing both Torre and Cashman. Ha Ha Ha, suffer! Spend all winter crying and whining. Stew in your wretched self-pity. It couldn't happen to a more deserving group of guys, may the Yankees rot in baseball hell for a generation.

ROFL :lolhitting

I miss Billy Martin.

seeing the yankees floundering is good for mankind.

They could have dead Billy Martin and Jesus manage that team, but they will continue to fail as long as their pitching sucks.

I think this means that the Chicago media is going to be shouting for Torre to manage the Cubs. I dont look forward to that.

this happens every year. Yankees lose, Torre's out. except the latter doesn't actually happen.

The Yankees haven't had the best offense in major league history before either. A .340 hitter hitting 9th?

There's enough reason to believe it this time.

the thing is, it's hard to win when you have no pitching. the Yankees just about need 8 runs per game to win this series. no matter the lineup, if you can't even come close to matching the other team's pitchers, no matter how good your offense, you're f***ed. we all know that watching the Sox the past two years, winning last year and losing this year, despite a damn good offense.

I think this means that the Chicago media is going to be shouting for Torre to manage the Cubs. I dont look forward to that.

or how's about Torre to the Red Sox?

I know all the sources have pointed to Sweet Lou getting the job, but I haven't seen comfirmation on Torre's firing nor have I seen it on Lou's acceptance.

Here's what I'm asking...is Girardi completely out of the question right now?

It wouldn't surprise me a bit to see the Cubs try and get Joe Torre as manager. It wouldn't make any difference in the Cubs anyhow, they would still be losers.

Why would Torre want to manage? Won't he get $7.5 for each of the next two years to sit on his ass if he doesn't manage another team?

He gets nothing out of it either. There are, by and large, only worst case scenarios which will tarnish a Hall of Fame managing career, regardless of whether the success was due to him or the payroll.

Torre is just the scapegoat. The pitching sucked for NY.

Hopefully this desperate situation will make A-Rod more affordable for the Sox. Cashman is going to be wheeling and dealing.

I agree. Torre is taking the heat for it all, the manager always does. Their pitching wasn't the greatest, and I have seen better Yankee teams then this one.

the yanks should hire dusty

What does Pinella bring that Torre cant?

I dont know, it seems like a serious downgrade to me.

But, I have a feeling that Torre is still going to be managing next year
