This could be the most split opinion since... what do we do with Pods? It is possible. The team is clearing cash, could upgrade LF, there are secret teams supposedly involved with the Sox speculated to be one of them, and Bonds does not appear to have teams breaking his door down to sign him. I've vented my opinion in the Garland to Houston rumor thread. Curious to see where Soxtalk stands.

I get the feeling it won't be as split as you think it will be...

I thought the same thing SS2k, but early results are showing that its close.

No:

1. He is a cancer.

2. He is a cheater.

3. He is bad in the OF.

4. We have a DH.

When I posted it was much closer.

Hence "early results"

Please, dear God, NO!!! For the love of all things good, NO!!!

Forget distractions. Forget clubhouse cancer.

The Sox don't need another base clogger on the team. Now, if we didn't have Thome? Maybe. But absolutely not with the team we have now.

Even worse than Rodman in a Bulls uniform.

The man broke the law. NOOOOOO.

He should be in jail instead of that guy who won't testify.

Just heard on espn news that Bonds met twice today with JimLeyland. I don't think we need to worry about having on our team but may have to face him alot next year.

Bonds had a bad year by his standards. 26 homers, .270 BA, 130 games. I think the guy is rapidly falling apart.

He's a liability in the outfield. He can't run the bases like he used to. He's an injury concern. Even if he were Mr. Personality in the Clubhouse instead of Mr. Flesh Eating Cancer, he is surely on the decline baseball-wise. He's not worth what he thinks he's worth... and that can cause other clubhouse problems.

This isn't 2003 Barry Bonds. Last year he was a shell of his former self. His skills are diminishing, he's injury prone, he'll be over paid and he's a jerk.

oh yeah... sign me up

NO NO NO

BIG mistake to go after Bonds.

I would be all over this move, Bonds is the greatest player to ever play the game and to have him break the HR record as a White Sock would be awesome..

I am really hoping we sign him

Bonds NEVER! :fight

I second that.

Even putting all of that aside, the Aaron HR Chase and all of the media hype would be a massive distraction. That atmosphere be counter-productive.

Bonds' .454 OBP and .999 SLG say hello.

So does his above average LF percentage.

I hate this piece of caca Bonds and he's everything that the Sox are NOT: selfish, stat-oriented, a clubhouse cancer, a jerk, not a team player, a gloryhound... and not only that there's the whole 'roid thing.

Why the hell would we take bonds when we already have Thome? We don't need anymore sluggers. We need more Ichiros, not broken-down warhorses looking to play one more season to break a record.

Rodman was great for the Bulls.

Rodman worked on the Bulls because MJ was there to be the alpha dog. Rodman respected MJ and was willing to follow his lead.

Barry Bonds will defer to no one.

I don't want to see him in a White Sox uniform. Period.

One more reason this may happen. Per 3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 in another thread, ESPN reported that Detroit is the mystery team in for Bonds. Did Leyland manage Bonds in Pittsburg? The Sox may sign Bonds to block this.

I was SOOOOOO happy tonight when the Giants signed Bonds to a deal. I hate him and wanted him nowhere near this team.

He is a great talent, but is a disgrace to the game of baseball in a myriad of ways...Let the folks in frisco have him. NEXT!!!

At first I wanted to avoid Bonds out of moral respect for the franchise, but since KW isn't going to improve the 2007 team through trades, we need to do something to stay competitive.

He just signed with the Giants for 1 year and 16 million.
