Since 2 of the starting 5 and, in turn, 2 of the 6 most memorable pitchers of the 2005 campaign are now gone, it just seems fitting to see who's legacy everyone thinks is the most memorable...

Reminders:

Freddy pitched a gem in game 4 of the World Series sweep

Bobby had multiple impressive performances, mostly game 1 of the world series, striking out Bagwell and taking out the 9th.

Mark saving and winning a game in the same world series

El Duque had the absolute lights out stop of the bases loaded BoSox.

Nothing really stands out about Jon or Jose, besides the all important W.

El Duque's 6th inning against the Red Sox. Unbelievable. I'd put Freddy's game 4 WS victory in 2nd, and Bobby Jenks' celebration jump (all of 3 inches off the ground) in 3rd.

I would say El Duque's individual performance vs Boston, then the collective effort of the SP's to throw consecutive complete games in the postseason.

P.S. I like the title, "Now that many of the 2005 staff is gone..". So I guess 2 is many.

I voted for Bobby... simply because when it comes to World Series Champions... the play they will show till the end of time is always the final out.

So if not Bobby, then my vote goes to Juan.

I agree. That was the most intense half inning of baseball I can remember. I was on my way home from work, continuing to listen to the game on the radio and I got inside to the TV just as Duque got in to pitch. I didn't sit down, I just paced until i hugged my mom when she yelled "he swung! he swung!!!" at Damon's not so check swing.

Pretty much the best memory I've got of the playoffs.

I'd put MB's win/save second, just because I think that was a classy and typical MB move. Bobby's game 1/game 4 saves third, and Freddy's Game 4 win fourth.. Just my personal memories of those moments put them in that order of fondness.

I was going to include Cotts and some other relievers, but they seemed like longshots.

I voted for Duque too and was surprised to see he was the early leader. When he got out of that inning against Boston, I said to the wife "That's the stuff of legend, they'll be talking about this forever."

Interesting topic, though.

Freddy. Won the division clinching game, ALCS clinching game, and World Series clinching game.

Had to go with El Duque... I'll never forget that inning against the Red Sox.

Buehrle's save will be remembered for quite some time too....

El Duque getting out of that jam was the best single moment, but the first pitcher I think of for the postseason as a whole is Contreras. Guy took the ball at the front of each series, pitched the most innings, he was our clear-cut ace at that point.

I agree. The El Duque inning was a very close second.

C'mon, someone show Jon some love. We don't make the playoffs without his regular season dominance.

Garcia, Hernandez, Hermanson, Politte, Cotts, Marte, Vizcaino.....

I voted for El Duque. That inning was absolutely amazing. I love that poster they put in the Sun Times, the one with the timeline of each pitch he threw that inning. Still have it on my computer.

Contreras for me.

I voted Duque, because he wasn't part of the 90-win "failure" of 2006.

...and because that half-inning was one of the more exciting things I've ever seen.

Since when does 2 count as many?

Wrong, Contreras won the clinching game of the ALCS.

I don't think I took a breath through that whole half- inning.

Interesting question. I voted for El Duque, but Jenks would be a very close second.

Well, that makes sense if you include them.

He didn't list all of them in the poll.

I thought the same thing at first.

He said "staff", not "rotation". So, of course, you'd include them all.

Don't foget Shingo!

my avatar says it all. That El-duque performance was simply magic.

Since we are talking "most valuable",. I'd go with the one inning wonder . . . I still get goosebumps. That was an effort worth remembering.
