Mike Piazza played 70 of his 1829 career games at first base over 14 seasons.

(68 of those games came in one season)

That's not a first baseman, that is a catcher who played a little first base.

He's also possibly the worst defensive catcher in the history of baseball, he kept himself at catcher over the course of his career when he was so much better suited for firstbase. I don't consider him a catcher either, you could have stuck Alex Rodriguez at catcher when he was 23 and he could have played equal or better defense than Piazza did but with twice the production. So when looking at Piazza's numbers you can not look at them in terms of the defensive position he played do to the fact that he really didn't play one. When looking at his numbers as a power hitter they're still very good but nothing outstanding.

 

He'll get in because he holds basically every offensive career mark for a catcher that there is despite the fact that he was playing the position under the most ultimately loose terms imaginable.

Actually Pujols and Helton *gag* are also possibilities. And Bagwell is basically a lock as is Biggio

I think I'm going to fight for Larkin in '10. He's far from a lock and could very well be passed over for a few years but the guy deserves to get in. The top offensive SS for the 90's while playing outstanding defense and carrying himself well in the media, sounds like a HoFer to me.

It's true that he was a hideous defensive catcher, but he still must be considered as a catcher because that's where he played for the majority of his career.

You can state that he shouldn't get in because he blew as a catcher, but you simply can't consider him a first baseman when he played 0.038% of his big-league games there.

I'm pretty steamed that Bert Blyleven didn't make it. But I'm real glad that Ripken and Gwynn did, though there was never any doubt. Ripken was one of my favorites.

If Garret Anderson can find a way to get healthy for a few seasons, he has a shot at being an Angel his entire career (since no one would take his contract) and if he did get healthy he'd have a shot at 3000 hits which would obviously get him in.

Plus even if he did juice, they were not banned from the game of baseball (yes they were an illegal substance in the US, but they were not banned from baseball) so I can not possibly hold him out because of that.

Is Smith eligible already? I imagine he should be, but maybe I'm wrong, because the guy definitely deserves to be in the HOF (2nd most saves in baseball history). He was the steadiest closer of his time and aside from Rivera and Hoffman I can't name two other closers that were steadier ever.
