February 2, 200719 yr -Ding-dong "Next stop, 35th." I know most of you drive in but this is what you hear on the El. It's now a pavlovian thing: walking under the El tracks and hearing that ding-dong sound, I immediately think: Sox. -Jimbo's (yes! Alive for one more at least!) -Finally breaking away from the crowd and heading for the gate, watching the tailgaters -When you first walk in and that smell hits you (from all the grilled onions)--best smell in the world -Walking onto the concourse and taking it all in for the first time that day (in the outfield) -The opening video -"Thunderstruck" -Even though I've been there how many times, I still duck when the fireworks go off after the intro because I forget they're coming. Every time. -Can't wait for: Elvis night, Cubs/Sox, my first Friday night game, coming straight from work downtown.... Ahhh... Feel free to chime in on my little Corona commercial here...
February 2, 200719 yr Its baseball that officially changes the seasons for me.Nevermind that its 40 degrees in April.It is spring because of baseball and excitement for the summer ahead.And then football changes the seasons once again in september even if its 85 degrees in september.

February 2, 200719 yr Author Here's another funny one: those of us who stand in the outfield the whole time, when the sun sets in the west and you're standing there with your hand in front of your face for a couple of innings because of the sun. LOL. (wearing a baseball hat fixes this) Also: walking around before the first pitch and just checking out the crowd, period. Talk about the ultimate in people-watching.
February 2, 200719 yr Opening Day. The night before, it's beyond exciting knowing that in less than 24 hours, an entire season is about to unfold - that there are going to be ups and downs and more than a few surprises. That there will be something, some play, that you haven't seen before - not this year, not last year, not ever. That the team that takes the field won't be the same team that leaves the park for the last time at the end of the season. That quite literally ANYTHING can happen, and that it will.

In '05 I was on maybe number three and the game was OVER. Whaa?? Damn you, anti-beer Buehrle! Jose shall now be called Jose Cuervo instead of Contreras, to honor his contribution to our imbibing.

I'm personally hoping to see Buehrle start Opening Day, but Guillen himself said he didn't make his decision fully yet.

You said it. Those few nights off a year and the Thursday getaway day game always leave a void that has me pacing. I know I spend too much time following the games and neglecting my family but I can't give it up.

February 5, 200719 yr My first legal, self bought, beer will be at the Cell. Just like my first legal, licensed drive was to opening day when I turned 16.. I turn 21 mid-march and I will refuse to buy a beer for myself until opening day, the timing of my birthday left it up to destiny for me to be a baseball nut. That said, opening day brings happiness back to my life instantly. I divide my life into baseball season and non-baseball season.. non baseball season means cold and winter and boredom. Baseball season is fun, warm, and always exciting.. Football season and the Bears doing what they did was a bonus this year, but I still couldn't have cared less.
