It's stiff, stale, and poorly-written. They just make stuff up instead of making fun of what's going on. And that canned laugh track is terrible. That said, I don't remember what TDS was like when it started, so maybe this can improve too.

 

Really, though, this just affirms John Stewart's rant on CNN's Crossfire a year or two ago -- Fox NEWS Channel is making a COMEDY program to compete with COMEDY CENTRAL'S fake news show.

Yeah, looks pretty lame. Of course I think the Daily Show has gotten lame too. I used to be a fan but 6+ years of the same jokes over and over again...I just couldn't take it anymore. It's old, John Stewart is old, the whole schtick is old.

That is also another big differance about the two shows. The Fox News tries to mock the Daily Show, but the Daily Show isnt fake news!!! They saterize REAL news. THe segment I saw last night was with a fake guest.

TDS also will take jabs at Democrats -- increasingly so lately because they're actually relevant again. This show just looks like its going to be a bunch of lame jokes written for people who love Coulter and Rush.

I guess I just find it a lot funnier when TDS uses actual clips and statements to poke fun at politicians and the media instead of just writing some really, really lame jokes.

 

Whats really sad is that a half hour of the Daily Show contains, on average, as much news content as a half-hour of a cable news network.

It's actually more of a direct ripoff of "This Hour has 22 Minutes" from the CBC.

 

But with SNL Weekend Update rejects writing the show apparently.

well jon stewart has gotten a bit preachy recently, but i think the show is in a transition phase really looking for new talent. The show is almost entirely reliant on stewart now, he has no stephen vs. stephen to pass to anymore, or vance degeneris. I think it's in a bit of a lull but i think it will rise again.

Given the hype surrounding it, its not a surprise. Premiere numbers are only important to watch if it bombs. It's how it will do in four weeks that matters.

What's their normal audience for a Sunday night ? I'm guessing that the 802K is more than a typical Sunday night.

 

Anyone know how Hannity's America is doing ? I believe that is one at 8:00 PM CT Sunday night.

9p (Hannity) 973,000

10p (1/2 Hour) 802,000

1030p (Lineup) 730,000

 

If you compare ratings to the last weekend in January,

 

ratings for both Hannity and 1/2 Hour are down about 20%.

Show cancelled after 15 episodes.

Still several times better than Glenn Beck's ratings. And CNN keeps giving him more time, not less.
