give BA a rest!

Gentlemen, don't you feel like we have all been a little hard on Brian Anderson? He's not that bad. Granted, he was awful the first half of the season, but the second half he hit .257. Not great, but not that bad for a rookie who nobody was expecting anything out of at the plate. Plus, he's a great center fielder. It's hard to find anyone who can get to the ball like BA. We just need a 9 hitter to hit around .250 or .260 anyways. But I just feel like we should keep BA and let him grow here. I've seen him to things in the field that impress me. He needs to become more patient at the plate, but that will come. He's doing pretty well in spring training so far, but lets see if that continues into the regular season. Anywho, lets give BA one more year before we run him out of town.

It wouldn't be such an issue if the team around was young and up and coming, but we don't have time to groom a player in such a key position, we can win now.

Yes, let's let the experienced CF get the ABs. Afterall, he's only been one of the worst offensive regulars in the game the last six seasons.

The Brian Anderson situation has nothing to do with the posters on here. It all has to do with one man.

Where is this comming from? I would say like 5% of the posters here are hard on him at least. Hardly anyone. Fathom is right on though.

I don't mind BA. I was rooting for him last year.

I'm just not willing to wait another half season or season for him to figure out hitting. I'd like to win now.

But as a fielder, I have total confidence in him.

I think the majority of us want BA to start the year in CF. Maybe not Ozzie, but he's not on this board. Is he? I think if he was he would have beaten up some of his haters by now. And called them f**s. Like Jay Mariotti.

And that man's name is Brian Anderson.

Ozzie would love to have BA start in center. Of course that's only if BA doesn't suck.

Permaybe. But we all know Ozzie's not a BA fan as a person. I really think he's a great manager but he's clearly dominated by emotion in many cases.

Jesus? It's Jesus isn't it?

Say 'hello' to his lil' friend.

Any chance Ozzie is leaning to using Luis Terrero in CF instead of BA?? Personally I think he should leave BA alone and let the man play his game.

no chance, not as a starter anyways. Perhaps as a 4th OFer if he feels Anderson doesn't earn the CF job and wants him to be starting in AAA.

EVERYTHING hinges on Scott Podsednik's health. At this moment, this is how I see things.

Pods Healthy = Pods, Erstad, Terrero

Pods on DL = Erstad, Anderson, Perez

God I hope Ozzie is willing to juggle the outfielders.

Pods traded = best, case, scenario

If anybody thinks there's any chance that terrero will be a better option in CF than BA, they're crazy.

p.s. what makes anyone think we're better off not having pods? I mean he's not the best LF in the universe but we're definitely not better with him gone and no real replacement

Rob Mackowiak is a better baseball player than Scott Podsednik in basically ever way imaginable. Hell IMO he's even cuter than Pods.

He's more rugged, at least.

Toby Hall is clearly the new sex-symbol of the Chicago White Sox.

*i dont know how to make that green*

Edited by bad at best

has rmack proven he can play everyday in the outfield? I think he's very well suited to the role he's in now. At least pods has been an every day player for a few years, and writing him off as done is sort of strange considering he's only one year removed from a career season in which we (coincidentally?) won the world series

I'm still waiting for Podsednik to prove he's an everyday player. Oddly enough he's yet to put together back to back even average offensive seasons, I say offensive because every season of his career has been below average defensively.

agreed. he hasn't put together back to back good offensive seasons. so what outfielder on our roster has? erstad has, 5 years ago. sweeney would probably fare about the same as anderson did last year. owens is clearly not ready. i think it's likely that terrero would fare the same as sweeney. My point is, if we have a better option than Pods I'm all for it, but we don't.

As a side note, I'd be interested to see how Fields would fare in left field but I don't think it's gonna happen.

The only way a guy like Mackowiak is going to 'prove himself' is if he's given a chance in atleast a platoon role which he has yet to be given. The guy has all the tools to be a starter in the majors and I'd say the majority of people who have followed the 2 of them would take Mackowiak over Podsednik in LF next year if for nothing else, the OF defense would be greatly improved.

Well it's obviously not what you intended, but I think Jermaine Dye qualifies as an outfielder, no?

And aside from Podsednik's rookie year, he's never been a threat with the bat. He got on base at a respectable clip in 2005, but that's all he did (unless you consider a singles hitter a threat, and I don't unless they're hitting .330 consistently). With Mackowiak there'd atleast be potential for power and even a few stolen bases.

FWIW, Mackowiak has had 3 years ('02, '04, and '05) with 400+ PAs and 2 ('04 and '05) with 500+. In those years he put up a .754 OPS ('02), a .739 ('04), and a .726 OPS ('05). As mediocre as those are, they are quite a bit higher than numbers Podsednik has put up. Hell, he damn near had 300 PAs last year and the numbers he had were quite respectable.
