am I the only one here not completely sold on him???

4.80 ERA and a .297 BAA. To his credit, Lefties are only hitting .221 however.

In comparison, Thornton (who I really dont like either) has a 4.89 ERA and a .278 BAA. Lefties are hitting .300 against him.

If used correctly Logan is one of the better people in baseball at his job.

From last nights game thread:

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 10:46 PM)
Actually his .211/.291/.289/.580 (87 PA) line against lefties this season begs to differ. He's no where near ready to be a setup man who faces both righties and lefties but as a 22 year old he's already one of the most effective specialists in the game.

His updated splits look like this .221/.295/.299/.594.

So the .221 BAA vs lefties is cool and all, they're not getting many hits off him but he's also not walking lefties and when they do hit him it's almost always a single (the 78 ISOp proves that out.)

Good luck finding many better specialists in the game today.

We can't go into next year with the same bullpen as we have now except for Jenks. Part of me thinks that the youth in the pen might be learning from this disasterous year and will be better next year, but on the other hand I don't see the talent showing through.

The only 3 guys I absolutely without a doubt would like to see in next year's pen are Jenks, Wasserman and Logan. I won't shed a tear for any of the rest.

I'd bet that Mac and Thornton(especially Matt) have bounce back years next season. I want Thornton back next season and I wouldn't mind if Mac is back either but having almost the same bullpen would look pretty poor.

I really don't know what the deal with Mac is. I have at least seen some flashes from Thornton, but MacDougal has just been terrible. He had a good stretch to start the season, but so did Aardsma. Mike was so solid last year, I really had high hopes for him. I just haven't seen ANYTHING from him to tell me he should bounce back next season, and I have been looking hard.

I agree but he has a track record and his stuff is still there. Who knows what's wrong with him, but with bullpen inconsistancies from year to year it's kind of hard to give up a guy with a good arm who has shown that he can be a good reliever. I wont be too disappointed if we deal him but I just don't want to get rid of him just to get rid of him.

I gotta feeling that will happen as well.

which would be terrible, because it goes against everything he's ever done in regards to building a bullpen (unless you count Dustin Hermanson as overpaying; probably was, but $2.5 mill over 2 years for a solid reliever isn't much).

He's built really good bullpens in the past, and I liked the pen he had setup this year, but it turned into a perfect storm of s***tiness. I wouldn't mind seeing a similar pen to opening day this year, save Nick Masset.

Damaso Marte vs LHP: .098 BA, .367 OPS

Rafael Perez vs. LHP: .345 OPS

CJ Wilson vs. LHP: .380 OPS

George Sherill vs LHP: .165/.242/.316

Wasserman looks to be a better specialist than Logan too.

Just sayin', but it doesn't really matter with Guillen as the manager

I'm definitely not sold on him.

No way.

Because?

I'm not doubting your answer Greg, I just want to see something behind that statement.

Anyways, if used right Logan can be very effective. You still have to remember his age, experience at the major league level etc. so he should only get better.

I think if it was a choice b/w him and Myers for a spot next season, you'd have to go with Boone at this point.

I think winning it all is all by chance.

Look at the 2005 Whitesox. On paper they sucked. They had one guy (correct me if I'm wrong) with over 100 RBI. Dustin Hermanson, Cliff Politte and Neal Cotts all had awesome career years. Our starting rotation all had career years. None of them will ever come close to that.

Look at the Cardinals last year. That team was garbage, but they hit at the right time, they pitched at the right time and they won at the right time.

Next year I would trade BOTH Garland and Contreras. Neither of them have an upside. I would not sign Hunter, he is over priced. I would get some youth and hope for the best. I don't think Cleveland and Detroit are that unbeatable. If we put together a team thats .500 at the all start break then we plug some holes then.

I just DO NOT want to see the following players anymore:

Uribe, Podsednik and Erstad

Fields, Richar, Buehrle, Jenks, Wasserman and Vazquez would be my only untouchables.

I think you have to add Danks to this list. He's only a rookie and while he is not outstanding at this point, would you truly feel comfortable giving up on him next year?

Not sold on Wasserman (Aardsma would have been one of your untouchables in April) and Richar yet, but willing to keep faith in Richar.

My ideal "realistic" team for next year would be as follows (KW, are you listening?):

Batting Order

SS: Vizquel

1B: Kotchman

RF: Dye

DH: Dunn

3B: Fields

C: Pierzynski

CF: Melky Cabrera

2B: Richar

LF: Owens

Bench: Hall, Ozuna, Sweeney, Aybar

SP: Buehrle, Vasquez, Contreras, Ervin Santana, Danks

RP: Jenks, Thornton, Logan, Floyd, MacDougal, Phillips, Linebrink

FA signings: Dunn, Vizquel, Linebrink (ARod would be nice but wayyyyy too expensive)

Trades:

1) Konerko & Garland to LAA for Kotchman, E. Santana and Aybar

2) Thome & Crede to Yanks for Melky Cabrera and 2 prospects (Brett Gardner, OF and Mark Melancon, P)

Gone via FA: Uribe, Pods, Erstad

That gives us more of an Ozzie-type team with lots of speed, OBP and "smart" players that are more or less durable.
