I don't mind the Ruutu deal....Ladd is an upgrade offensively but it makes the team a bit softer though.

Ladd seems promising enough (young guy, big kid), but doesn't this trade seem to be at best a lateral move?

The Hawks need defensemen more than forwards, and Ladd will probably have the same production as Ruutu playing on the 4th line.

I think Ladd will be easier to resign than Ruutu would have been...I think all in all thats why this deal was made. Bad thing is it appears Ladd is very injury prone though.

My problem is that I keep thinking of these deals in terms of on-ice results alone.

I always overlook the contract/salary cap/free agency side of things.

Rumor going now is Williams to Nashville...this trade would make me ill. I think Williams should be resigned.

What a f***ing pointless deal. Good thing we have patience in our young players. Skille best be a PPG player or else he'll be viewed as a failure and will be shipped out.

Lapointe was a disappointment, a 6th rounder is unfortunately what his play merited.

 

I hope Lang is part of a deal to acquire someone the Hawks actually need.

Yeah but Wade Belak got a 5th rounder from FLA (so top of round)...Lapointe should have gotten more than a 6th in my book. Only thing is Belak's contract isn't as bad but still....Hopefully this opens a permanent spot for Skille to come back.

I thought the Hawks were going for the cup. I believe this season is over but why trade away guys for crap. Ruutu and Williams should have been resigned or traded for soemthing and while Lapointe is useless so is a 6th round pick as comapred to the hope that maybe something could still happen this year while not likely at least keep them together.

Sounds like Ladd can score in the slot which is what this team desperatly needs. If he can camp in fron of the net and do some dirty work then this could be a really good move. Of course he could end up on a line with Adams and Eager and really see what he is made of.

Not a chance! Hossa is a no show in the playoffs and the goaltending is OK. Plus the also got Gill and pascal dupuis.

That's fine that Pittsburg did that. Let them resign Hossa to the money he's going to ask for (and get from someone) too. There's no way they'll be able to keep all of that talent -- Staal, Malkin and Crosby. You're looking at four guys who -- when they start talking about extensions -- could ask for close to $40 million annually. Staal can't be a long-term fixture there.

On the other hand, I would've done backflips if the Hawks could've gotten Kessel for Havlat and others. That also would've been a marketing dream for McDonough -- Kessel and Kane, two of America's own best and brightest, playing side-by-side.
