Reddy
Jim Thome of the Chicago White Sox has been suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount for his inappropriate actions during his Club's Friday, April 11th game against the Detroit Tigers at U.S. Cellular Field. Link personally i find that ridiculous, but hey, maybe a day off will do him good.

mreye
I'm sorry. I was out of town this weekend. What did he do?
jackie hayes
Do they usually suspend players who get tossed, or who get tossed for arguing balls and strikes? If it's something they always do, well, okay, but I'd think getting tossed would be enough. Doesn't matter much, though. He was due for a day off, so it's just a loss of a pinch-hitter. RME JICO
This is odd. I didn't know you can get thrown out of a game and suspended for the same thing. Double jeopardy. Ozzie was giving him a day off anyway. Hopefully the day off motivates him to get on track.
shipps
I forgot about him being tossed,I thought this was going to be a steroid suspension thread.
rangercal
Frank had an outburst against the Umps a couple of weeks ago too. It has to tell you something when Frank and Jim go off on the umps in such a short time span. 3,000+ walks between them.
WCSox
Suspended for arguing the f'n strike zone?! GMAFB.
whitesoxfan101
People are seeming to forget that although it was shocking to see Jim react like that, he did go pretty crazy. Anyways, he needs the day off regardless and Ozzie said he was getting one so this works out fine.

It just looks worse because he's normally so subdued.

SoxFan562004
That ump was bad in that game. It usually annoys me when Hawk drones on about the umps, but it was a legitimate gripe in this game
Balta1701
Did he make contact with the ump? That's the only way this makes sense.

Dick Allen
He threw a cup on the field after the inning ended. I bet that is what the suspension is for. It was a gatorade cup, so it is pretty weak.

The umpires britches are a bit too big for their bottom's right now.

Double jeopardy would be being tried for the same act twice, being punished twice has always been around. Actually, the opposite would be more rare. Getting suspended without getting thrown out of a game.
Dick Allen
Thome threw the cup on the field after the inning was over, which would mean he was in the dugout, a place he wasn't supposed to be. The suspension could also be for that. Remember Bobby Valentine with the disquise after he got tossed? I thought that was hilarious, but he was suspended a few games IIRC. RME JICO
QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 10:34 AM) Double jeopardy would be being tried for the same act twice, being punished twice has always been around. Actually, the opposite would be more rare. Getting suspended without getting thrown out of a game. Actually it does mean double punishment. "nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb" There are three essential protections included in the double jeopardy principle, which are * being retried for the same crime after an acquittal * retrial after a conviction, and * being punished multiple times for the same offense.
