May 16, 200817 yr Has 8 errors so far on this young season, on pace for 32+ errors this year!!! His career high is 14. Obviously not trying to over-react, but most of the 8 so far this season have been during very critical moments in the game. Not only that, but the spectacular grabs down the line are becoming very scarce from him. With all the rehabbing, has he lost a bit with his glove?? Our team is obviously built around defense, should this be a concern that is at least so far, been way overlooked this season? Discuss. Edited May 16, 200817 yr by watchtower41
May 16, 200817 yr this is going to sound extremely apologist, but it's possible to have a bad stretch. this can be a bad stretch. i guess i just cant point to marked decline until i have a full yr to look at.
May 16, 200817 yr QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 16, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) Did Brooks Robinson ever have a stretch like this? I don't know, but Robin Ventura did. In 1995 he had 10 errors his first 10 games. Edited May 16, 200817 yr by Dick Allen
May 16, 200817 yr he was amazing at the begining of the season, now hes been making those costly errors. i wouldnt worry about it 2 much though/

May 16, 200817 yr QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 16, 2008 -> 12:13 PM) Did Brooks Robinson ever have a stretch like this? If he ever did Hawk would've told us all about it by now. The Manny Ramirez foul pop up still stands out in my mind along with Valentin pop foul catch against the Twins. There is also the always impressive D'angelo Jimenez 3 run infield pop out error which started the House of Horrors. Crede's error's just stand out because they seem to have a huge impact on the outcome of the game. They are relatively easy plays as well...well at lest hte last few were.
May 16, 200817 yr QUOTE (klaus kinski @ May 16, 2008 -> 12:25 PM) If Borass isnt worried, I'm not With what Boras got Andruw Jones this offseason, I would doubt he worries about very little other than if his deal with the devil is still valid Edited May 16, 200817 yr by SoxFan562004
May 16, 200817 yr Assuming that this is because he basically missed a whole season of playing while injured, then this early rustiness isn't too big a deal. He'll probably bounce back. But, if this is somehow related to lingering issues with the back, then I'd start to worry.
May 16, 200817 yr He doesn't look comfortable on balls to his left. His dives in Seattle were very strange, almost like he was just flopping down.
May 16, 200817 yr QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) He doesn't look comfortable on balls to his left. His dives in Seattle were very strange, almost like he was just flopping down. That wasn't his good way anyway, I thought. Most of the great plays he makes, that I remember, are to his right. And his incredible arm strength.
May 16, 200817 yr QUOTE (lostfan @ May 16, 2008 -> 08:10 PM) Aren't they mostly throwing errors and not fielding errors? I think so and maybe with a year off it's still not comfortable for him at all times when he gets the grip on the ball and makes a throw, etc. He has maade some real terrific and tought plays this year also so I am not buying back problems at this time anyway. My theory is that Josh Fields switched gloves with him.
May 16, 200817 yr QUOTE (lostfan @ May 16, 2008 -> 01:10 PM) Aren't they mostly throwing errors and not fielding errors? His throwing errors are when his arm drops down a bit, and lets the ball sail. They are on routine plays, when he has time. To me thats more lack of concentration than any other issue. The timing on his errors aren't the best. The only thing it tells me is that the Josh Fields era wont be the Armageddon that we have been told about.
May 16, 200817 yr I'm not worried about this at all. He was off for quite a while. The Ventura stat reassures me too. We've got far bigger problems than Joe's errors here and there. Definitely though a topic that has been on people's minds.
May 16, 200817 yr He hasn't had a glove problem, it's an arm problem. It my knowledge, I would say 5 or 6 of those 8 errors have been on his throws.
May 16, 200817 yr 5 of his 8 errors have come on throws (3 of his last 4 have been fielding errors.) Of course he's also playing a position that allows the official scorer plenty of leeway. I know Crede's RZR is in the bottom half of baseball thus far.
May 16, 200817 yr Not only that, but the spectacular grabs down the line are becoming very scarce from him. In order to make these plays, they have to be hit to him in order to make them. It could be that there are just fewer opportunities to make spectacular plays. They, like hits, I would assume mostly come in spurts.
