I bet Varitek will still win, even with you people adding massive amounts of votes. [sarcasm] Nice job. [/sarcasm] Well, I will say this. Varitek isn't the best catcher in the voting. How is he ahead of Bengie Molina who is hitting .290 and is the best defensive catcher in the American League arguably. Molina also has 49 RBI's. If Thomas is going to lose to anyone I'd want him to lose to Molina whose a damn good catcher and should be in the all star game. Also how the heck did Troy Glaus make the all star game. Geeze, Blalock and Mueller are way more deserving then him. Glaus shouldn't be on the team while Molina should be on it.

July 9, 200322 yr what you guys did was wrong but at least u admitted what u did was wrong Actually, I heard the MLB exec on either the score or AM1000 and when asked about the possibility of hacking, his direct answer was that it couldn't be hacked and that even if it could, MLB considers that these are the fans voting and however the vote turns out will be representative. Go spend your time on a Boston board and leave us in peace. We should have won three out of four from Boston, so shame on us. But that's all we're admitting. Forkit!

Sorry, but if Molina is batting .290, then Varitek has the upper-hand just with average. Here's Varitek's stats: ============================= .296 AVG, .575 SLG, .361 OBP, 51 RBI, 15 HR, 41 Runs Here's Molina: ============================= .289 AVG, .453 SLG, .320 OBP, 47 RBI, 9 HR, 27 Runs Varitek is CLEARLY better offensively. And, since you wanted to know about Frank, here's his stats (all stats as of 10:45 EST on 6/9/03): ============================= .279 AVG, .571 SLG, .418 OBP, 48 RBI, 20 HR, 44 Runs Thomas and Varitek are definatly close, but I wouldn't say that either has much over the other. So, we go to defense: ============================= Varitek: .989 Fielding%, 5 errors, 72 games, 22 assists, in 464 total chances. Thomas: .995 Fielding%, 1 error, 26 games, 9 assists, 208 total chances. Considering that Varitek has 256 more total chances, and he has played in 46 more games, you have to expect that Thomas would make a few more errors, and have a lower fielding percentage than he does now. Thomas has never been known for his defense, while out of the three catchers that made the team, Varitek's caught stealing percentage is ranked 2nd. Compared to other catchers offensively, Varitek ranks second in average, first in slugging percentage, third in OBP, third in walks, first in total bases, first in RBIs, second in home runs, and second in runs. The only other catchers that are better than him in anything are Posada and Greg Myers (Toronto). Sorry, but I don't see that Thomas or Molina have dominating stats over Varitek in anything, and considering this is a career year for Tek, he deserves to be on the team.
July 10, 200322 yr Ya, after double checking I realized that I heard something wrong on Varitek. I have no problem with him making the game. I do think Molina was snubbed, but to say Varitek isn't deserving would be wrong. I also think that Giambi had numbers that would get him in over Frank. The only thing is since its being played in Frank's home stadium you would expect the close call to go to the hometown guy.

One thing is the game is supposed to be for home field advantage. Why bring a third catcher who will not play. Varitek is not better than Posada or Hernandez. Why not bring a guy who would be playing at his long standing home stadium. People are saying bring Clemens because of his 300th win. It would be just as special to see Frank at the Cell. Someone said it earlier and its true, the White Sox have a better shot at the playoffs that the Red Sox. Good luck catching the Yanks.
