If you're fine bailing out people who purposefully (or negligently) f*** up and lose everything and the only thing that matters is the economics, than you might as well get rid of the bankruptcy system and step in and pay for the employees of poorly run businesses to keep their jobs and for the businesses to continue operation because their net effect is probably more than the cost of helping them out. According to Balta, bailing out GM was actually a net positive, so why not extend that logic to every business? Why not pay off my student loans so I have more money to spend in other parts of the economy (which will eventually make more than the cost of paying off my loans)?

That doesn't flow from "the economy is not a moral reward/punishment system."

I'd rather the Fed Reserve send you checks to pay down your student loans and mortgages than to send checks to banks to buy MBS's. Indefinitely? No, but until we actually recover and get to full employment.

Trust in news media at a big time low. 60% distrust mainstream new media.

only group that trusts it are Democrats, basically because the vast majority of MSM news is clearly pro-Democrat party. Only 31 percent of independents trust news coverage.

Answer this question honestly please. Is Romney one of the worst candidates in Presidential history? I would say yes.

yes, and everyone knows that already.

Releasing his 2011 return isn't going to blunt anything. People want to see 2009 because that's where the potentially damaging information is.

Walter Mondale also sends his regards.

lol, they should really keep hammering after Romney's tax returns. I'd just make commercial after commercial about it, along with the quote from his own father saying that if someone won't show them, they have something to hide

I think this might be evidence that they have officially disowned him

What is the point of telling what the Dems should do here in the R thread?

When you have something to hide you don't release the info; at least that is what the other side tells us.

Serious question -- do presidents release transcripts? Also, what kind of content on the transcript would you be interested in?

Serious question. if the media can find Romney's grade school grades, why can nobody find out Obama's college grades or even the classes he took? Or how he managed to pay for said college? We always hear how smart he supposedly is yet never offered any proof. I wan to know what grades he supposedly earned and in what classes he took. I heard he is stupid and got F's. It's not My job to prove it, it is HIS job to prove me wrong ala Harry Reid.

Oh, and how many President's or candidates have released more than a year or two of tax records, including Obama? Bet you can count those one one hand. You already know he is rich, what are you looking for? He also released his taxes for the last 10 years or something like that. Why is that not good enough for you. Anything to keep the focus away from jobs and economy.

Most of them since the 1980. Obama, Kerry, Gore, Bush, (hillary) Clinton in the primaries, (Bill) Clinton, Bush Sr., Dukakis etc.

He has not released 10 years of tax returns. He released a letter that summarized their taxes in the most flattering way possible. In a campaign that is at least partially about future taxation plans and what rates different income classes should pay, it's at least somewhat relevant. I'm not sure under what scenario Obama's college grades are ever relevant.

College grades are considered highly private, it would be disconcerting if those could just "appear" without being given out. My main question is what is the precedent for this? Do presidents/candidates normally release their college transcripts? We know he graduated from undergrad and got a JD. You can't get into law school without pretty damn good undergrad grades, and then in professional school grades change entirely (well, in graduate school they do...I confess I don't know as much about law school).

At least in recent times the Ivy League schools don't give merit scholarships to undergraduates but it is possible that the President received a great deal of need based aid. There are currently a lot of sources of funding for a minority student as well, I suppose they may have been available at that time as well. Of course, you'd have to take his word about these things since those things are kept very private and I'd imagine the records of his finances wouldn't stick around for long.

You can certainly get a feel about much of his education just based on his graduation and admission from the respective schools. He doesn't appear to have been a drop-out biology major.

One of George W.'s Yale transcripts was published by who knows who and how they got it sometime around 2004.

I believe he got a B- in Geology, IIRC.

Here's the real problem. Tell me how this is inaccurate:

“Release of the document, while it might serve a political purpose, would not prove very much, he argued. One year could be a fluke, perhaps done for show, and what mattered in personal finance was how a man conducted himself over the long haul.”
The guy who set the multiple year standard...back in 1968...George Romney. ANd he's right. I mean, Mitt could easily have paid 9-11% last year if he hadn't been running for President for Pete's sake.

Its hard enough to rewrite a standard of disclosure. Rewriting a standard written by your father?

We all know the reason transcripts aren't released. By BARRY's OWN ADMISSION he was a drug addicted flunky in high school. Yet he got into what was at the time a prestigious school. Then, while being a self professed cocaine user, he kept moving on to Ivy League schools. Yea, I bet it was good grades. LOL.

The guy got in as a foreign exchange student. I suppose that makes me a birther, right? No, I'm not saying that. I'm saying either he bucked the system and got in as an exchange student, which if he's American, it was a lie. Or, he's really a foreigner, which is worse because now he's got a constitutional issue. Personally, I think it was the first option, but that's a pretty big whopper to have to explain, isn't it? OH, but we'll never know, because while every f***ing ® has to release everything, the (D) has a very personal life to protect.

This makes the media hypocritical douchebags.
