July 23, 200817 yr I just wanted to let everyone know gas is $3.79 at a speedway station in my town. I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I know oil prices have gone down the last 2 weeks or so but this is crazy because all the other stations within a few blocks are still selling for around $4.20. Quick to raise prices and slow to lower them..yeah that sounds like something the oil and gas companies would do (gauging anyone). Anyway the station is a Speedway on the corner of Halsted St and Ridge Rd in Homewood. So if anyone is going to be in the South Suburbs or going to be going along I-80 near halsted get it while it lasts!
July 23, 200817 yr Most of the stations on Indianapolis Blvd in Hammond / East Chicago are the same price. I need to fill up my 5 gallon cans for the lawn mowers. Yes, it's very sad, Mike.
July 23, 200817 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 07:37 AM) 3.79 is cheap... how sad is that? I remember paying under a dollar when I was in high school. I also remember the first time I had to pay over $2.00. Now I get excited when it's under $4.00
July 23, 200817 yr QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 02:40 PM) I remember paying under a dollar when I was in high school. I also remember the first time I had to pay over $2.00. Now I get excited when it's under $4.00 The lowest I remember paying was 63 cents. I am sure Flaxx and Tex could tell us about the good old days of nickel gas...
July 23, 200817 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 07:37 AM) 3.79 is cheap... how sad is that? My eyes start glaring when I see gas prices that are below the 4.10 mark. I guess it's because we're used to seeing gas close to 5.
July 23, 200817 yr Author QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) Is it still 3.79 in Homewood, Joey? If so, I might have to go... Yes it is.
July 23, 200817 yr Author QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 02:40 PM) I remember paying under a dollar when I was in high school. , I also remember the first time I had to pay over $2.00. Now I get excited when it's under $4.00 I also remember paying like 99 cents for gas in high school. I remember between 1999-2002 gas was regularly like $1.25 with sometimes prices falling to 99 or 89 cents over the border in indiana. In high school it really was like "throw me $10 for gas" that was like half a tank.
July 23, 200817 yr Author The falling prices make sense. Gasoline futures today closed at $3.14. The typical difference between traded future price and price at the pump is usually anywhere from 50-75 cents, mostly dependent on local and regional taxes. When gas futures were at their highest $3.55-$3.60 in June, retail prices were about $4.25-$4.40 in my area. Now gas is trading at $3.14 and prices are between $3.79-$3.89, with the exception of those non competitive A-hole owners who still have their gas around $4.20 on the other side of town (away from that cheap speedway on halsted).
July 23, 200817 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 03:42 PM) I am sure Flaxx and Tex could tell us about the good old days of nickel gas... Back to the old days of vehicle fuel: oats, hay, and carrots.
July 23, 200817 yr There's a station near me run by a local grocery chain. They have frequent shopper cards where you can earn cents off of a gallon of gas. Yesterday, they had their gas at $3.87 but they were closed. With so many people using their discount cards, they actually ran out of gas.
July 24, 200817 yr Move to Venezuela. If you can avoid the violence, you can drive all day. Gas is $.12 a gallon.

I think their oil industry is state run there, that could be a subsidized gov't price. Plus I remember hearing that Venezuelan oil, though they pump tons every day, is basically garbage oil and difficult to process from.
