Jaffa Bagel inside Ogilvie Transportation Center - Great roast turkey sandwiches fresh off the carcass. Made to order but watch so they do not skimp on the toppings.

Don't know what Jimbo does (except rip on Illinois and Missouri, although I don't think you get paid for that! ), but I'm a video producer/editor. No, I do not get paid to rip on other teams, thought that would be a sweet job. I was recently laid off by a marketing firm. I have several years of account management in both sales and marketing. Recently, I have began to take classes at Northwestern for a masters in sports marketing. In essence, a position that would allow me to handle accounts/support account, or to establish new clientele for a company. My dream is to work in sports sponsorship but that will take awhile.

Once in a while, I'd get a personal size, deep dish pizza from Giordano's. Four slices, two toppings for under $6.00 if you pick it up.

Jaffa and Planet? You and I are on the same track when it comes to lunch. I will have to try Pollito. I walked by there the other day and was wondering if it is any good. That spot used to be a Harold's Chicken, right?

 

On the Haifa note, they have several loop locations now and they all do decent falafel, hummus, tabouleh, etc. as well as the whole roast turkey for sandwiches. It seems there is a middle east syndicate of sorts that have all employed this formula of grilled/skewered meat, pita, spreads and roast turkey (I guess for the less daring friend that tags along). There is a place called Taza next to Perry's on Franklin that does it as well. Their meat is a little dry to me but it is the closest of these options to my office so I go back sometimes.

 

As far as Jaffa goes, I found a place that is virtually identical in their turkey sandwich bar setup. It is called Bonjour Cafe and it is inside the Thompson Center, but on the first floor near the CTA entrance, not on the lower level. Their setup mirrors Jaffa so closely that I asked if they were affiliated. They said no, Jaffa just copied them. Great sandwich plus a nice looking coffee selection from what I saw.

 

Curious to where your office is SS2K. I thought I was the only guy willing to walk all over the city for a better lunch than Corner Bakery, Cosi and PotBelly.

Most of it is that I have worked down here 10 years and been everywhere from Greektown to west loop, to the CBOE building to the CME building, and points in between. I have covered A LOT of ground in that time, and I know what I like. Right now we are on Monroe a block from the CME.

 

How about Chinese? My personal favorite is the sixty five in Union Station, along with the cajun chinese place there, and the tempora house in NW station.

Sounds like you and I have traveled the same path over 10+ years in the loop. Since you mention Greektown, have you ever been to Nine Muses? A little pricey and definitely a destination lunch spot that requires well over an hour of time but great grilled meat platters and excellent iced coffee drinks called frappes. Also a few decent looking eastern European waitresses as well. I highly recommend it if you have time to venture out of the loop. The outdoor or window seating is so nice and relaxing if you have a slow day at work in the summer.

I haven't been there before. Mr. Greek, Greektown Gyros, and Zues were the places I used to hit up, along with Taco Burrito King, and the place that did gigantic pizza slices. Sounds good though.

Boni Vino has a few things that are really good

 

Dearborn St. Oyster Bar in the winter for gumbo rocks easier to deal with than Heaven on Seven

I used to go to Gold Coast Dogs down there.I wonder if its still there.

Youll be happy to know its still there.

 

But this windy city grill place that was in Ogilvie Station by the Ethels closed a few years back. They had a great cheddar burger but such is life.
