Thinking waaaaaaaaaaaay too far ahead...

So this is a completely ridiculous thread idea, but aint no catch all thread anymore, (Cause Jason's a huge loser) so my insanity gets spewed into it's own thread....

The talk of not getting the game in tonight in the game thread got me thinking, do you think the next Sox ballpark will get a retractable roof to prevent this? I know that if they even get a new stadium it wont be for another 30 years or so, so who knows what kinda crazy futuristic stadium designs there will be...

I think this thread came about cause I really hate Rain Delay's and Postponed games, especially while Im at work cause I need the distraction Haha. I blame the weather for this stupid thread.

Well if Chicago wins the 2016 bid there may be an extra stadium laying around and I would gues that it would have a retractable roof.

I may be ripped apart for this, but I think ANY new/refurbished stadium should have a retractable roof at this point. I think it's ridiculous that with Soldier they didn't either figure a way to put a retractable roof on or move to a location that would provide for one.

I disagree, but only for football. Football is a sport that should be played outside wherever you play. Some people complained about the Super Bowl in '06 that now they should always play it inside, but I still disagree.

Other sports however should have the option to be roofed...even though Hockey is pretty cool outside

not trying to flame here but wats chicago football without blizzard or raining conditions its part of our edge

In terms of baseball, I definitely agree. I can't believe Minnesota didn't put one in with their new one -- that's ridiculous.

Well, here's the issue. How bad do you want the conditions to be for the Super Bowl? Rain pushed it a few years back. No matter how big or modern the ballpark, I can't imagine the NFL will put a super bowl in a place that might well have -20 degree temperatures on gameday.

In 100 years, it's pretty likely that an open door stadium in Chicago could run with a super bowl, but by then they'll have to renovate the soldier field space ship again anyway.

What he said.

Yes, I think so.

The important thing is that it's named after Bill Veeck, not this corporate s***.

The next Sox park will be when we are all significantly older people - at least 40 years from now.

Can you believe that this park is heading towards 20 years already? :)

never happen. Bill was fun and I love the guy, but he didn't bring a championship to the south side - jerry reinsdorf did.

could have used a roof tonight :(

Also I don't think Corporate Sponsorships are going away any time soon

I like it the way it is now. If it rains, so be it. I thought the rain during Game 2 of the Series gave it an amazing vibe. You wouldn't have that with a roof.

It also rained during game 5 of the 2005 ALCS in Anaheim no less. (it never rains in southern california) I remember writing a post the next day that was more like an essay using the rain as a symbol washing away the years of suffering or something along those lines. I often want to go back and read it again but the damn search never works.
