The belief was that McCain needed to change the game tonight. He did not. Not good for him.

CBS Uncommitted Voters Poll

Who Won The Debate?:

Obama - 39

McCain - 27

Tie - 35

On all the other questions, Obama SOARED compared to the same question before the debate. McCain had VERY modest increases.

Both of their basic answers to questions were the standard BS, but I'd give it to Obama for jumping in and taking issue with McCain when he felt misrepresented on taxes, Pakistan, etc.

yea, he basically said "screw the format" when he saw that McCain was slandering him.

I went Obama by a nose, basically because McCain came off condescending to me and I don't like that. McCain needed to stand out and he didn't.

What a stupid format. Hey, lets reduce all interaction among candidates and not allow follow ups and act like the crowd is interactive when in fact they might as well just be the moderator asking the question. That's informative! That's entertainment!

Won't vote, wish I hadn't watched. Only enjoyment was how badly McCain's jokes bombed.

I won. By flying to London instead of watching the debate.

Screw you current events!

Format was terrible, Brokaw was awful.

McCain was condescending and offputting, but BOTH candidates managed to avoid actually answering most of the questions and instead spouted off lightly-related talking points.

Winner: Obama, by a small amount.

Effect on election: McCain failed to get the momentum changer he needed. Looks bad for him.

I only watched it for about 45 minutes because thats all i could take. The format was poor. Neither candidate really ever answered a question. I'll just say Obama didn't answer questions a little less obviously as McCain so I guess you can say Obama "won"

I really don't see how people would believe that. Like or hate McCain, agree with him or not, someone with his experience (both in and out of the military) better equips him to handle a military situation by far, IMO. I'm not surprised by the results of any of the other polls, I just think the results of that one are surprising.

IMO, it's borderline irrelevant, because the president doesn't micromanage anyway. The president should have a strategic vision, but almost always leaves tactical decisions to his commanders and senior cabinet people.

Also, again IMO, the Iraq invasion would've gone a LOT smoother if Bush had his current Cabinet in there as opposed to the trash he had in 2002-2003. Or, it may not have even happened at all.

Oh, I thought it was a tie btw.

I won't be watching another debate on CNN, by the way. I found myself mesmorized by the moving lines up and down and starting to think "well, Obama's had more times above the neutral line than McCain", and then I thought to myself "what the f*** does this matter, it's like 18 people they have hooked up to these things."

Regardless, this debate once again was the same regurgitated stuff, though I believe Obama won simply because of how he handled himself and how he took charge of the debates at time because he had to reply to a few McCain lies.

Dude, nothing is worse than those Frank Luntz FOX focus groups. Youtube it. Those lines piss me off too.

Winner? TV networks. This is probably the most important election in decades...people seem to be more interested this time around, which makes for higher ratings, which equal higher revenues (although, I watch PBS).

McCain didn't do anything to make a big difference, which he needed to do. Obama is just playing defense at this point, bend but don't break. If you look at it like that, then I guess Obama won by not losing.

Ha. I need to stick with NBC or CBS.

Unfortunately, I couldn't change channels because I dvr'd the debate to meet Giada de Laurentiis. :notworthy

google (or even soxtalk :lolhitting ) is your best bet. Every station is biased some way or the other.

or what canocorn just mentioned, PBS. I agree with that.

I'm a big-time Obama fan, but I'm starting to get my fill of the bias towards him by a few members who post non-stop around here. Ugh. I can't wait for election night, I'm having a big time party.
