What office are they running for? I don't recall seeing their names on my ballot the other day.

Ah. I see it's for the 10th congressional district. Mostly northern suburbs.

I wasn't too sure myself. I see a lot of their signs around here so was curious. Kirk has taken a lot of heat during his last term. I'm leaning towards Seals, personally.

tough District for a Democrat to win in... but then again, I thought that about my 14th District.

Damn, I never realized Chicago had so many representatives.

Shakowsky is the 9th's congresswoman, and she's the most liberal member of the House (that's Evanston for you though). She'll win, we love her.

 

Since the 10th is seriously across the street from my house I kind of treat both of this districts the same even though I cant vote between Kirk and Seals.

I'm in Guitierrez' 4th. He's pretty much elected for life there.

 

The fact that Freedom's Watch has has entered the race pretty much means the RNC is shaking in their boots.

The area is a little more liberal than you'd expect. Seals made it close last time, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if he wins.

Two years ago I was registered in the 10th. I voted for Seals and thought if he couldn't win in 2006 he would never win. But Seals is looking to ride the coattails of Obama this year and I think he could pull it off. Kirk is a pretty moderate Republican. Socially he's liberal but economically and militarily he's aligning himself more and more with Bush. Seals is pushing that in his (very very negative) campaign ads.

Yeah my mom always tells me how negative Seals is going.

I just saw this morning that Blago has a 13% approval rating, and only 10% of Illinoisans want to see him re-elected. Ouch. I thought W's 25 to 30% approval ratings were bad. 13% is horrific.

Congress always does. Ask somebody how much they like their congressperson and they'll be gushing, ask somebody about Congress as a whole and it's a completely different story.

I've said this before, but Congressional approval ratings are meaningless, the fact that it's a "rating" of a body of 535 people notwithstanding. When the Republicans were in charge the ratings were steadily declining. The Democrats took over 2 years ago and the trend continued. But it's a lot easier for right-wing blogs to use that as another reason to blast the Democrats (they deserve it, especially in the House, but that's beside the point).

• Sneed is also told U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, who is this/close to Obama and was a major Obama supporter from the get-go, is pitching to have state veteran affairs chief Tammy Duckworth fill Obama's spot, and had the ear of Gov. Blago until recently. Blago is also a big Duckworth fan.

My money's on Jesse Jackson Jr. Smart. Young. Name Recognition.
