"According to the Denver Post's account of Monday's meeting between Jay Cutler and the Broncos, Cutler left the conference call believing he will be traded if Denver finds "the right deal" between now and the NFL Draft.

In addition to Josh McDaniels and Pat Bowlen, the Post says GM Brian Xanders and Cutler's agent Bus Cook took part in the discussion. I would trade Matt Forte and Orton for Cutler or Forte and a future 2nd or this years 3rd. I'd probably even go with Forte and our 2nd pick for Cutler. Franchise QB's don't grow on trees.

And unless you have an elite defense then, you won't win the big one in the NFL without a franchise QB in this day and age.

But we are the Bears. We run the ball and beat your noses in on defense. This high powered offense thing is pure silliness. It's not blue collar" enough.

Oh and anyone who will tell me how great Forte is, I will tell you that running backs in the NFl are a dime a dozen and potential franchise QB's don't grow on trees. A franchise QB can run your franchise for 12-15 seasons where as a premiere running back and your lucky to get 5-6 real good seasons of production. Bottom line the value of a QB is a s***load higher than the value of a RB (and I love forte).

Thanks for going through both sides of the argument for us. Either way, you trade Forte and you have to look for one of those "dime a dozen backs" which have eluded the Bears since the 90's. It makes them take a large step back, its easier for them to trade draft picks.

Matt Forte is a good player at an important position. Jay Cutler has the chance to be a GREAT PLAYER at the MOST IMPORTANT POSITION. If you disagree with this assessment... than thats the end of the discussion. I think you're wrong, but its sports... who cares.

I mean you can say that Forte may be the next Walter Payton, but I don't think his play suggests that (not talking stat-wise here), he doesn't possess the type of game breaking skills that separate a good RB from a transcendent RB like LT, AP, Barry Sanders etc...

 

I think the "dime a dozen" argument doesn't necessarily apply to Forte because he's better a 1000 yard journeyman who averages 3.0 yards a carry. However, you can find a RB who will provide enough production where there will be an overall gain in offensive production by adding Cutler than if keeping Forte.

Forte could be the next GREAT bears back (Sayers,Payton,Anderson) . He could also be the next Atrain. Anything in sports is a RISK. Forte is not a sure thing either way.

 

The exact same argument can be made for Cutler. I would say Cutler and Forte have about the same odds to be GREAT.

 

 

As a bear fan who was giddy when Grossman was a MVP candidate the first 5 weeks of 2006, I would love nothing more then to take a chance on an Elite QB, even at the expense of Forte.

Of course I would prefer to trade a 1st and a 2nd for cutler. (that's a lot more than what I hear Denver was asking from Detroit) , but if it came down to Forte for Cutler, I would do it.

We absolutely agree on that point.

 

Matt Forte(while a 2nd rounder last year) would probably be worth close to a first round (late firstround) pick this year. You'd have to imagine that a team would rather have a somewhat known commodity like Forte rather than pick someone in the late first round, pay them first round money, and have no idea of how they will perform.

 

I was tooting the Forte horn from the time we drafted him last year, I was finally right! (Rexy still stings SO MUCH!)

You have to actually find one before you can pay one.
