Some spiders, I think including Luxoscili (sp?) order spiders, have neurotoxin for venom (as opposed to hemotoxin or other types). It effects the nervous system directly. So, the relationship is there.

 

Still though, this is amazing. Hopefully prompts some research into using that venom or analogs for this sort of thing in the future.

 

I don't think the spider bite had anything to do with him walking again. It sounds to me like this was an accident that they even found out his nerves were still working.
