White Sox's Ramirez sued for $20M in Dominican

Featured Replies

In documents presented to the prosecutors office in the Peravia judicial district -- located 40 miles southeast of the Dominican capital -- Ramirez and his agent Jaime Torres are accused of owing Julio Martinez and Ramon Fernandez $450,000 from a signing bonus.

The plaintiffs are also asking for an additional $131,156, which represents 5 percent of Ramirez's income from two years in the majors, the documents say.

The $20 million claim is for damages and violating the contract.

Give me a Break!!! it looks like 580,000 at most IF THIS IS EVEN LEGIT, where in God's name do they think they can score 20 million...GREEDY BASTARDS

you always break the bank with what's "owed for damages"....if settled, it would be for far less IMO

Somebody explain to me why Ramirez would need to hire "talent scouts"? On the face of it, this seems like a scam.

$20 million for damages? What damages? Screw them.

Phew, at least he ain't no baby daddy.

Nor did he shoot an Italian naval officer.

Couldn't he just refuse to pay it, and then never return to the Dominican?

Considering his wife is Domincan, that might not be a great option.

So who knows anything about the Dominican justice system?

depends what type of agreements the U.S. and the Dominican have for liens and the like. I have no idea if there are any, but if there are, then he really should deal with it

I expect that they’re facilitators that helped him to leave Cuba. It’s all very disingenuous.

I don't think that even the Dominican's or any Latin American citizen can figure out the legal sytems in some of those countries. I lived in Central America for over six yers and believe me it is a real strange system
