Moving out this Saturday. I'm the last of 5 kids (well, actually my one brother who is still in college is at home still), I'm sad because I think I am making my mom sad. But I'm also very excited to finally be by myself and playing football again (it's been a long however many months since November).

 

Also, I'll still see my family a lot. I'm gonna see my family at most home games or games in Illinois. Also, after football season, I'll probably make my way back home during the weekend a lot as well as for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Practice doesn't start until Monday. Most college camps don't start until August anyway. D-I is a completely different story though.

That's awesome, the school is in the area so assuming you have some kind of transportation you can make it home whenever you can.

Matt, there's nothing better than learning how to depend on yourself. It's the best way to mature into adulthood. It's tough and not fun, I won't lie to you. I don't mean to sound like an old fogey, but there really is nothing more satisfying than knowing that you do not need anybody's financial help. I don't know if your at that point yet, but the best advice I can give you is live within your means, budget your expenses, pay your bills on time, keep your credit card balances manageable and don't buy a car that costs more that what you make annually. That may be more than you're dealing with currently, but in the longterm, it'll help.

Your telling me. I've been kicked out, strayed in the streets, mooched off friends, had to sell things just to survive, had no car and had to literally walk or sometimes take a train/bus with that little money, etc.. Its damn hard out there in the real world, in someways it grabs you by the balls and won't let go, but I feel it's made me a stronger person esp. knowing what that feels like with AND without a credit or job/education. What's funny is, my friends joke with me that I've experienced a s***load of hell in every aspect, which many people takes alot longer, and I'm still only a couple months from being the ripe old age of 23.

 

Back to the thread, I wish you the best bro. Not sure if your having a roommate or by yourself, but it's awesome exp. in your life. It's always nice to invite your buddies (male/female) over a couple times a week, have a beer/mixed drink, and watch the game, or play card games with everyone/gossip.

I'll be living with 2, maybe 3 other football guys. We'll be spending about 12 hours a day for the first month on nothing but football (practice, film, etc.), so the rest of the time we'll probably just chill in the apartment. A lot of football guys live in the same complex or near by as well.

 

I can't wait for school to start though. I got an extremely easy 1st semester, and I'll get to meet new people.

I moved out kind of gradually. Going to the military, when I'd come back my room was still kind of "my" room and most of my stuff was still there. Now my parents have pretty much completely taken mine and my brother's room over.

I got the f*** out. Dad moved me to Carbondale, shook my hand, said good luck, and the rest is (hazy) history

Don't feel bad about making your mother sad by moving out. Trust me, she'll appreciate it, especially since you're the last to go (your dad will appreciate it even more, *pistolwink*).

I consider Carbondale home now. The only time I ever go back to moms/dads is for White Sox/Bulls/Hawks games. If those teams didn't play in Chicago I'd never be back there.

Carbondale will jump the shark for you about 3 months before graduation. I cant explain it now, it wont make any sense, but it happens. Still a great place to go back to, just not a place to stay

about to leave... I know my mom is really sad, but she's doing a good job of keeping it together.
