I'm looking to go to Japan, or South America sooner than later. Anywho, was wondering about TEFL of TESL certification, company's to go through, etc. Any help will be great. Korea has a very interesting english teacher program. They put you up for free, you teach English, they pay you between 21 and 30K a year. You come in Late July/December, hundreds of schools that teach english and don't give an eff about teaching certifications. They train for like 2 weeks, and then you are teaching their structure and materials. No Tefl necessary, and to be frank, a lot of the "programs" that have you pay like $2000 for certification and then "guaranteed" placement are scams. Thats how I feel. I have my BA in Secondary Ed, the cert seems like a complete waste. South Korea, while it does pay fairly well and is fully set-up, doesnt intrigue me so much. Who knows tho, Im trying to jet the Isles by January so really got to get the ball rolling. What grade level are you looking into teaching? Do you have any schools in mind yet? I have a friend's friend family who runs a school out there if you want a lead. I'd be working with mostly adults, the school has a good reputation with businesses in the area so they are sending their employees there to learn english. I didn't try, but i was in this, looking back, lame program where we did freshman orientation/parent orientation, and of that group, it looked very well on these types of programs radars.
