Angel Pagan as a starting CF? Hell to the no!

Other than the fact that his name is Angel Pagan, which is hilarious if you think about it for a second... I don't like it.

 

Looks like he had some fairly impressive #s playing part-time last year.

 

Impressive for what he's been in the past at least

 

Maybe due to lack of sample size he's someone who can be had affordably

I don't think anyone is against it, per se.

 

It's more that the Sox need a leadoff hitter, and that more than likely will be from the CF position, more than RF.

 

If they get a LF leadoff hitter, then Rios will be in CF and Quentin will move to RF.

He's a backup. He wouldn't have played nearly as much as he did how Beltran not gotten hurt.

I think we should acquire a RF or LF more so than a leadoff hitter.

Yeah but he's a backup to a 100 million dollar ball player, right? I've looked at his numbers... he didn't do that bad as a back up. Maybe he just needs a starting job to prove how good he can be. He could have a break out season on the southside.

After the Nick Swisher experience I am guessing the Sox don't want to have another hitter ruined by trying to fit them into a square hole at the leadoff spot.

For the Sox to be really pursuing this, things must be at a total standstill with Pods' people.

 

If the price is right this could be a good idea. You can go after a real DH then.....and keep Beckham as the fallback plan for leadoff hitter.

His line (BA/OBP/SLG) from 2006-2008: .259/.316/.406. He had a decent year last year (aided by a really high BABIP of .352). But I wouldn't count on him repeating it. And the Sox are aiming really low if they are.

As I said, he'd be a quality backup. If Angel Pagan is your starting CF you're in trouble.

A number of clubs have shown interest in Mets outfielder Angel Pagan, major league sources said Wednesday, but it doesn't appear that he's close to being dealt.

 

The Royals have inquired about Pagan, 28, but one source insisted that the Mets don't have interest in Kansas City outfielder Jose Guillen.

 

Pagan, who is arbitration-eligible, probably has greater value to teams searching for an everyday center fielder than he would in New York. He batted .306 in a career-high 88 games this year, but he wouldn't see as much playing time with the Mets in 2010 if Carlos Beltran stays healthy.

 

Pagan should earn a reasonable salary next year, so the Mets aren't obligated to move him.

 

Milwaukee is looking for a center fielder, but would prefer someone who excels against left-handed pitching. Pagan fares better against right-handers, as is the case with many switch hitters.

 

The Cubs, Rangers and White Sox are also looking for a center fielder, but it's not known if any are planning a serious pursuit of Pagan. He played for the Cubs in 2006 and 2007.

What source? And in this scenario what are the Sox trading for this 29 year old should be utility OF? Talk about buying high and aiming low.

Not quite what I read but similar. It mentioned the Sox interest and teams may look at him as a CF'er. It is typical baseball hot stove stuff. Just gets your blood flowing a bit and wishing it were spring training already
