November 18, 201114 yr ...and to reiterate so it's not lost in translation, I would NOT recommend someone buy a 4S specifically for Siri. But I would recommend, for example, a person go from a 3gs to a 4S. Siri is just a bonus at that point.
November 18, 201114 yr Author QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 18, 2011 -> 12:18 PM) There will be things you ask it that it cannot do/find yet -- but it'll get better. This is like complaining that when Google maps first came out it couldn't find some things. It's new, it's still beta, and it's database has to grow, and this will take time. The times I've used it to make calls, or dictate texts for me while driving, it's worked wonderfully. When I asked it where the nearest pizza place was too me the other day when people said to order pizza -- it worked fine. When I asked it how to split a 15% tip between 7 people on a 450$ bill -- it worked. I'm SURE there are things it cannot do yet. That STILL doesn't mean it "plainly sucks" as you stated. See, in Vegas we can no longer use cell phones while driving, unless using a hands-free device. So basically, I can't use my phone for anything at all once I am in the car. I would like to dictate texts, auto-dial numbers, lookup locations, etc., while I am in the car so I can actually get use from it in one of the situations I use it most. My dad needs a new phone, so I would just pass my iPhone4 to him, but I just wonder if I should hold out for iPhone5.

Ha, I passed my 4 to my dad as well. I would hold out for the 5 unless you are switching carriers, I find basically no advantage to the 4s. The camera is a touch better, it really doesnt seem faster at all, and Siri. Oh, and speak a text or email is nice.

Maybe I will pitch the idea to my mom when she visits in a few weeks and see if I can sucker her into paying for my new one in exchange for giving my old one to pops...

If I didnt swtich to Verizon I would have stayed with my 4. But Verizon has been so much more reliable and cost friendly than ATT was for me.

After a few months of using a 4S, try going back to a 4 and you'll notice.
November 18, 201114 yr Are they even going to call it the 5? Wouldn't it be the 6? The only phone they named by number was the 4, which was the fourth phone. There was no 2 or 3. 3G came second, but that was named after the network. 3GS was the upgrade to that phone like the 4S is to the 4. I'd bet they don't call it the 5.

If you load them side by side, the 4S just does everything faster. Even in official benchmarks, it's not even close. The 4S is at the top of the heap with the new Nexus phone...the iPhone 4 is like on par with phones from a year ago in comparison. http://www.anandtech.com/show/4951/iphone-...gpu-than-ipad-2 Edited November 21, 201114 yr by Y2HH
November 21, 201114 yr Apparently the inventor of Siri graduated from my high school 6 years ahead of me. Small world. He sold it to Apple for $200 million about a year and a half ago.

The change wasnt nearly as noticeable to my naked eye as switching from the 3gs to the 4.
November 21, 201114 yr I needed an organized way to put music on my Android phone. Downloaded DoubleTwist for my desktop, very nice application.
November 23, 201114 yr Can someone recommend a "simple" set of speakers to enhance my television watching - mainly sports? I'm not looking to build a huge home theater with 10 speakers, just something with a few that's easy to set up but enhances everything. Not quite sure what to look for.

I bought a Sony 7.1 receiver for about $200 on Amazon, along with some Sony SSF-5000 pair speakers for about $100 and some speaker wire and had it set up within an hour (while incredibly hungover). You can upgrade the speakers ($100 for a pair is as cheap as you get, but they sound really good, though could use a bit more bass) or just buy a subwoofer with it. I spent $300 total and Im loving the setup.

Center (Subwoofer, can be placed/hidden anywhere) Front Left Front Right Center Left (YOU) Center Right Rear Left Rear Right Edit: Apparently the forum doesn't like you adding white space...that text diagram above shouldn't look like that. ^^^ That is what 7.1 looks like if set up properly. 5.1 looks the same minus the two center channels. November 23, 201114 yr 7.1 is like 3d movies at this point. The technology is there, but unfortunately there are very few movies that you can buy for the set up. I bet there's actually less 7.1 movies than 3d movies, though obviously that's eventually where movies are going.
November 23, 201114 yr So has anyone seen this black friday deal on amazon.com where you can buy any new phone (except iphones) for a penny if you sign up for a new two year contract? I'm really debating this, but i'm not sure how it works using Amazon to sign a new contract. I want to keep my same phone number, I want to take advantage of a corporate discount, etc etc. Anyone know how that works with an online retailer?

Without enough space between the speakers, you lose the ability to decipher where it's coming from.

I have a 7.1 setup and tuned right, with the right speakers, you can here the difference. I've got my set up in my basement, so there's some space, but you don't need some gigantic theater-like room to hear the difference.

The bigger the room the easier it is to decipher. In a smaller room, while you can decipher the difference, it's almost negligible. In that same room most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference from 5.1 and 7.1, but the larger the room gets, those same people CAN.
November 23, 201114 yr I'd like a good way to have wireless rear speakers, but I am not sure the technology is there. My new job is all google everything, its going to take awhile to get used to not doing the VPN/outlook thing.
November 23, 201114 yr Author I just bought a soundbar and a sub...I'm too lazy to mess with 17 different speakers

Easy, I want to expand when Im not a fulltime student/part time employee. Buying a $250 5.1 receiver was just going to be a bad choice for me long term.
