October 2, 201411 yr QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 07:10 PM) MotoX has been at 299 with various promotional codes a few different times. I'm talking about the new one. The old one is pretty cheap. I got a 32 GB for $350 a few months back.
October 2, 201411 yr QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 07:29 PM) With the singular issues every summer I have travelling around the north to northeast where they have almost no service, T-MO has been great to deal with. For example they have one tower in Jackson Hole, out by the airport and unless you know where to look, you won't find it. They also throttle your date amount when roaming. Because I tend to travel around a lot to remote places, I have Verizon...and it almost always works regardless of where I am. I was just in Jackson Hole this past summer, and my phone worked everywhere but in the most remote areas, and even then it'd pop in signal from time to time.
October 2, 201411 yr QUOTE (Knuckles @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 11:37 AM) Anyone else annoyed apple removed camera roll? Update, looks like Apple relented to complaints on this one, users are reporting the Camera Roll has returned in iOS 8.1 beta.
October 6, 201411 yr Switching from an iPhone 4S to a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, any advice? The Sprint Buyback program is giving me $204 for my iPhone 4S FYI.

October 6, 201411 yr QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 01:34 PM) Why not wait for the Note 4? Because I'll only have to pay $46 for the Note 3 when I get my buyback credit.
October 6, 201411 yr QUOTE (JPN366 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 01:41 PM) Because I'll only have to pay $46 for the Note 3 when I get my buyback credit. I think the Note 4 is like $300 on-contract. You'd be paying $50 for a newer device. That's worth it IMO.
October 6, 201411 yr QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 01:43 PM) I think the Note 4 is like $300 on-contract. You'd be paying $50 for a newer device. That's worth it IMO. My buyback quote is only good until the 20th, so I need to get a new phone now so I can trade in my old one. There's no official release date for the Note 4. I'm not on a consumer contract, my wife works for Sprint. So I'm on her employee plan. Employees aren't eligible for consumer offers. The Note 4 is going to be $300-$350, so I'd rather pay $46 than $96 or $146. I just want a bigger phone, so I'm not that picky. Edited October 6, 201411 yr by JPN366
October 6, 201411 yr I held the new iPhones today (getting serious about making the dive). I'm unimpressed. They're basically Androids now in look and feel. The only thing holding them back is a circle button.
October 6, 201411 yr I think these iphones are the least comfortable in the hand. I don't know if it is the aluminum backing or what, but they don't feel right.

October 6, 201411 yr QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) It just doesn't feel like an iPhone. It feels cheap. Couldn't disagree more. Feels more solid than any iPhone other than the 5, and it's close enough to the 5 in terms of sturdiness that it's negligible. Keep in mind the 4/4s had 2 panes of glass which I didn't care for, and the 3 series were plastic which I really hated. The 6 is the best built iPhone I've held since the original iPhone 1 design, which this is very similar too. The only change I'd make is making the camera flat, I don't like it, especially as a person that doesn't use a case. If you use a case, the camera sticking out makes no difference, as the case will undoubtedly make it flat. Edited October 6, 201411 yr by Y2HH

We agree here...I was never a fan of the squared off feeling of the 4/5 series iPhones...I mean, they weren't bad, and in that smaller form factor that squared off design worked quite well, but the squared off edges on phones this big would just be terrible. The 6 is a stark departure from the 4 and 5 series iPhones, back to the rounded shape I always felt was more comfortable to hold. Edited October 6, 201411 yr by Y2HH

What do you mean by squared off?
October 7, 201411 yr QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 06:58 PM) I'm confused...I'm looking at my 4S and the corners are rounded. What do you mean by squared off? A 4/4s has flat sides and "chamfered" edges, it's not round like the 6/6+. You can rest a 4/5 on its side and it will stand up straight, you can't do that with a phone that's rounded.
October 7, 201411 yr http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/10/07/an...ns-for-android/ Google's thinking about implementing multi-window in Android (not the Samsung or LG implementation, which limits what apps you can use). If this is the case, then upping the size of the next Nexus to 5.9 inches makes sense.
October 8, 201411 yr They're making the next Nexus that big to get developers a reference device for that screen size
October 8, 201411 yr QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 7, 2014 -> 08:22 PM) They're making the next Nexus that big to get developers a reference device for that screen size That could be one reason. But if they released a 5 inch phone again, the multi-window feature wouldn't be all that useful.

I'm not sure how useful multi-windows is on small screens, beyond a few use cases. My monitor at home is 27" and it's quite useful to have multiple windows open side by side by side, but on sub 17" monitors, I tend to just full screen everything because of the limited space. I think this issue compounds itself on even smaller tablet sized screens which are already limited for productivity apps which tend to require a lot of space, especially when considering the virtual keyboard...and I highly doubt people are connecting 6" phones to a external keyboard in most cases. The only real use for something like this that I can see actually wanting to use is one window being music controls/spotify (for people who use it), and the other being maps for driving around. A lot of people like texting/messaging while watching videos. That's the main use for it on mobile.
October 8, 201411 yr I think it is an absolute must for tablets, though, so I'm glad they're developing it.

I also like to pull up my calculator or a sticky note on top of the email I'm reading. I didn't think I'd use it as much as I do.
